Destination Italy

Acclaimed chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and beloved TV personality Richard Blais opened La Zozzona at the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort. La Zozzona, which means “messy delicious” in Italian, is inspired by Blais’ extensive travels throughout the cities and countryside of Italy.

The menu showcases a selection of housemade pastas influenced by the trattorias of Rome, wood-fired steaks that pay homage to Florence and Tuscany, cocktails that highlight Italian flavors and ingredients, and an extensive selection of Italian and rare wines. Save room for the tableside tiramisu and the hazelnut chocolate cake. Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, 7500 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, Scottsdale; https://lazozzona.com

Phenomenally Fragrant

The legend of The House of Creed tells that the perfume house began in 1760 when a pair of scented leather gloves was delivered to King George III by a new London tailoring company. Founded by James Henry Creed in the same year as the young king’s accession, The House of Creed has led the way in creativity for clients ever since.

Creed, which uses rare, natural ingredients that celebrate the beauty of nature, opened its 12th boutique, called Creed Boutique, in the luxury wing at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. The scent-sational destination showcases the brand’s best-selling scents and exclusive offerings.

Must-Try Tasting Menus in the Valley

Some of the Valley’s most talented artists use neither brushes nor paint. With dishes as their canvases, local chefs let their culinary imaginations run wild thanks to the rise in popularity of tasting menus, dreaming up experiential, opulent recipes to tantalize and titillate the taste buds for those who are open to epicurean exploration.

TASTING MENU AT THE LARDER + THE DELTA

Chef-owner Stephen Jones was recently named a James Beard Award semifinalist in the category of Best Chef: Southwest for his newly opened fine-dining experience in Phoenix. At the larder + the delta, choose from a five- or 13-course tasting menu—both with added whimsically delicious surprises—that aim to please the palate with elevated twists on Southern-inspired recipes. Think preserved kumquat, cured swordfish, and even chicken fried hen. Prices vary and reservations are strongly encouraged. 2320 E. Osborn Road, Phoenix; https://thelarderthedelta.com

WINTER MENU AT COURSE

Chef-owner Cory Oppold's vision at COURSE is to transcend the traditional meal, crafting multi-course experiences that engage both the palate and senses while remaining approachable. Like Jones, Oppold is similarly firing on all fine-dining cylinders as he is also among the James Beard Best Chef: Southwest semifinalists for 2025. Oppold’s winter menus, available in five or eight courses, are available through early April and boast unflinchingly bold twists on ribeye, celery root, caviar, squab, and even gummy bears. Prices vary and reservations are strongly encouraged. 7366 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale; https://courserestaurantaz.com

CHEF’S ROULETTE AT ZUZU

ZuZu at Hotel Valley Ho is asking guests if they feel lucky nightly via its interactive Chef’s Roulette dining experience. A twist on a tasting menu, every roulette reservation features six inventive courses from the playful chef Russell LaCasce, many using unusual ingredients like buttered popcorn ice cream, foie gras teriyaki, and bleu cheese fondue. An adventure for all the senses, the meal also includes bold libations and a course that comes on a replica roulette wheel for added drama. Reservations start at $149 per person and guests must be 21 or over to attend. 6850 E. Main St., Scottsdale; https://eatatzuzu.com

TASTING MENU AT TÍA CARMEN

Tía Carmen, which is the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa's signature restaurant, helmed by celebrity chef Angelo Sosa, recently unveiled a new five-course prix fixe menu focused on melding sophistication with natural simplicity. Highlights include tuna crudo with corn coconut broth, smoked chile oil, and dill; ember roasted purple yam with queso sauce, aged tepary bean mole negro; and New York strip seasoned with Southwestern spice blend served with bone marrow butter. Reservations start at $85 per person. 5350 E. Marriott Drive, Phoenix; www.tiacarmendesertridge.com

STEAK NIGHT AT STK STEAKHOUSE

Available Sunday to Thursday and inclusive of a glass of prosecco or Cabernet Sauvignon, this "choose your own adventure" twist on a tasting menu features three courses and gives you the opportunity to choose from a hand-selected list of specialties, including jalapeño pickled shrimp, mushroom and truffle tagliatelle, dry-aged porterhouse, and apple pie. Reservations start at $69 per person. 7134 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale; https://stksteakhouse.com

NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY AT THE NEIGHBORLY

There is a private dining space—Bar Neighborly—tucked into The Neighborly in Central Phoenix. On the third Thursday of every month, chef-owner Christopher Collins takes it over to create an ever-changing four-course tasting menu with a new local partner. Called the Neighborhood Party, recent menu collaborators include Arcadia Meat Market and PHX Beer Co. Reservations start at $50 per person. 5538 N. 7th St., Phoenix; https://theneighborlyaz.com

TASTING MENU AT FLOUR & THYME

The newly opened Flour & Thyme is chef-owner Ivan Jacobo’s most eagerly anticipated fine-dining concept to date. Every night, Jacobo dishes out a seven-course masterpiece with dishes one might expect at a Michelin Star eatery in New York or Las Vegas. Expect everything from foie gras torchon and tuna carpaccio to a veal tomahawk and lasagna reimagined as agnolotti, as well as hard-to-get wines curated from around the world. Reservations start at $135 per person. 114 W. Adams St., Phoenix; www.flourandthymerestaurant.com

IDGAF AT MAPLE & ASH

Feeling naughty? Indulge multiple vices at Maple & Ash with its IDGAF menu, which stands for “I Don’t Give a ****.” The name is cheeky, especially given that guests will care very much about every bite during this four-course dinner selected nightly by the chef. While it changes regularly, each course is either a best-loved menu item, such as the fire-roasted seafood tower, caviar service, and wood-fired steaks, or a super-secret, off-the-menu specialty made just for IDGAF guests that evening. Reservations start at $200 per person. 7135 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale; www.mapleandash.com

CHEF’S COVE AT MARCELLINO RISTORANTE

The ultimate date night done right. The Chef’s Cove starts with a welcome glass of bubbly, followed by small bites. Chef Marcellino Verzino then meets with each guest to find out their personal preferences and any dietary restrictions. From there, he creates a five-course tasting menu that is completely customized to each table. Each course is paired with award-winning Italian wines from Marcellino Ristorante’s award-winning list of Italian wines. Reservations start at $250 per person. 7114 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale; https://marcellinoristorante.com

CHEF’S TASTING AT CHRISTOPHER’S AT WRIGLEY MANSION

Scottsdale Culinary Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Awardwinner chef Christopher Gross offers multiple tasting menus from which to choose in his glass and steel culinary mecca perched atop a hill overlooking the city’s lights. The most luxe option is a chef’s tasting with eight audacious courses plus bonus bites, all served in outrageous ways and complete with silverware and candy hidden inside the table. His recipes showcase the most exclusive ingredients in the world, including caviar, foie gras candy, Wagyu, lobster, and truffles. Reservations start at $275 per person. 2501 E. Telewa Trail, Phoenix; https://wrigleymansion.com

OMAKASE AT ROKA AKOR

Omakase—loosely translated as “to entrust the chef”—is offered nightly at this Japanese robata steakhouse. This personalized tasting menu features exclusive, in-house premium, chef-selected ingredients, and is meant to showcase the best of Roka Akor’s three kitchens. During the feast, enjoy hot and cold appetizers, premium sushi and sashimi, items from both the robata grill and tempura kitchen, and a tray of desserts. flowers, and saguaro boots (which form inside a cactus). The sculpture was designed to billow and ripple in the wind, reflecting the iridescent beauty of Southwestern light. 424 N. Central Ave.

Waterworks at Arizona Falls

At 58th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix, a restored hydroelectric plant on the Arizona Canal is now a gathering spot. Created by artists Mags Harries and Lajos Heder, the design exposed the gears and floors of the site’s former hydroelectric plant generator room and framed an outdoor “room” with coolness and the sound

of water by diverting small flows of canal water to create a pair of waterfalls. There’s a footbridge and viewing platform. 5802 E. Indian School Road

One-Eyed Jack stands watch on the corner of Marshall Way and Indian School Road; find Copper Falls along the Arizona Canal; the Hearne Way Lights provide a unique atmosphere; step inside The Doors and Sound Passage for the full experience.

Renowned artist and architect Paolo Soleri created this unique artwork along the Scottsdale Waterfront. The piece also serves as a pedestrian bridge, solar calendar, and gathering place. The bridge, which is anchored by two 64-foot pylons with a 6-inch gap between them, is situated at a true north axis, allowing it to mark solar events produced by the sun’s shadow.

4420 N. Scottsdale Road

One-Eyed Jack

Rising 26 feet high, this painted steel jackrabbit sculpture by John Randall Nelson stands watch on the corner of Marshall Way and Indian School Road, welcoming those who pass by. The sculpture is meant to be a reminder of Marshall Way’s history, as well as a nod to its future, as rabbits have been symbols of rebirth and cleverness. Here, it symbolizes the eclectic, artistic heritage of the area, and the promise of a bright future. 7042 E. Indian School Road

This eye-catching series of five aluminum equine gargoyles created by Laura Haddad and Tom Drugan offers a unique feature—during flooding events, water pours from the horses’ mouths. Explore the 14-foot sculptures up-close on foot (don’t enter the water), or they can also be seen while driving along Indian Bend Road. The artwork offers a nod to the area’s historic McCormick Arabian Ranch.

7605 E. Indian Bend Road

The Doors and Sound Passage

This installation is two artworks in one. From the outside, there are three massive doors leaning against each other. Titled The Doors and created by Donald Lipski, it is a sculpture of South American hardwood, mirror-polished stainless steel, LEDs, and steel rivets and strapping.

Step inside and you’ll feel like you stepped into a kaleidoscope, with its mirrors, multiple reflections,

and light reflected from the sky. The experience is enhanced with Sound Passage by Jim Green, which offers a variety of unique sounds. Corner of Scottsdale and Camelback roads

Jack Knife

An identifying landmark in Downtown Scottsdale, Jack Knife was the first large-scale sculpture created by premier Arizona artist Ed Mell. Modeled after Scottsdale’s official city seal—a ride astride a bucking horse—the bronze sculpture rises more than 8 feet high on its base. 7077 E. Main St.

Copper Falls

Created by artist Robert “Bob” Adams, this artwork along the Arizona Canal consists of copper domes of various sizes. Water from the canal flows through the domes, which hang in front of backlit panels of frosted glass. The water falls at different depths to create different activity in the domes. 7201 E. Camelback Road

Swale

Attached to the guard rails, 176 powder-coated steel “blades” and “seed pods” greet those who pass by, on, or near this bridge in Scottsdale. Created by artist Stacy Levy, the installation’s inspiration was the vegetation that grows in the nearby Indian Bend Wash. The blue blades represent the flowing water that runs through the wash when it rains. 7825 E. Thomas Road

GILBERT Festive Filaments

These cool circular lights are suspended above Hearne Way. The circular pattern is meant to mimic cotton, while the lined design represents hay, two crops that were grown long ago in Gilbert's Heritage District. The changing lights above Hearne Way provide a unique atmosphere along the curbless street. 383 N. Gilbert Road
