Though you might not believe it at first glance, Gail Morris is predominantly a landscape painter. In her first book, well-known artist Wolf Kahn describes her work as “spare and elegant.” Often compared to Mark Rothko, Morris works with color to distill the landscape to its visual and emotional essence. Typically scraping more paint off the canvas than she leaves on, her seemingly simple use of color is truly complex in nature, as she decides how to layer her paints to create different hues, producing a pleasant blend of imagery. This show at Bonner David Scottsdale, incorporating the inspiration of the ocean and music, presents her latest fusion of hues in a geometric style. https://bonnerdavid.com
