SUTSGE
INSTITUTIONAL MULTI-USE BUILDING [Awarded first place in a state-level government competition] [Project under construction]
Saltillo Cathedral
The SUTSGE project is located within the Historic Centre of the city, directly facing “The Mirador” (The public viewpoint of the city), a prominent urban lookout frequently used by residents and tourists as a gathering and observation place.
Metropolitan Center
The project scope includes three primary buildings and a five-level parking structure, in addition to integrated underground parking. The total constructed area is 13,036.73 m². The site presents a significant topographical condition, with elevations ranging from 1490 m to 1515 m above sea level, resulting in approximately 25 meters of vertical difference across the property. I was responsible for the architectural design development, preparation of construction drawings (architectural plans, sections, elevations), preliminary structural coordination, foundation proposal, and integration of mechanical and plumbing systems. The project required detailed revision and recalculation during the transition from academic proposal to construction phase.

Aerial Photomontage (2020) Given its adjacency to the Mirador, the project required a sensitive urban response. The lookout functions as a public vantage point where visitors gather to observe the city skyline. To preserve uninterrupted views from street level, the architectural strategy prioritized embedding the building mass into the natural slope rather than constructing above grade. By leveraging the 25-meter topographical difference, the primary built volumes were positioned below street level.

This approach allowed preservation of the skyline and panoramic views, visual continuity from the public space, reduction of perceived building mass and the integration of architecture with landscape. The project therefore contributes to the urban fabric without competing with the Mirador’s visual dominance.

THE BUNKIE PROJECT The student is required to redraw the plans both by hand and in AutoCAD, based on the provided information, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency in the drawings. Following this, the student must construct a model of a specified side from the drawings, demonstrating an understanding of the information to support accurate model construction at a scale of 1/2” = 1’-0”. The model must clearly illustrate framing methods and material assemblies, including finishes such as stucco, wood siding, or brick veneer, as indicated by the professor in class.

SAS FIRE & RESCUE EMS This fire station is designed to feel strong, efficient, and welcoming all at once. At its core, the layout is simple and practical, everything revolves around making response times as fast as possible while still creating a comfortable place for firefighters to live and work. The apparatus bay sits at the center of the building, allowing fire trucks to move in and out quickly, while the quieter spaces like sleeping areas, offices, and meeting rooms are set apart to give a sense of privacy and calm. The shape of the building reflects energy and readiness. Its angled forms and bold lines give it a sense of movement, almost like it’s always prepared to respond. At the same time, the large glass façade opens the building up to the community, letting people see inside and feel connected to the work happening within. The exterior envelope is primarily composed of vertical ribbed metal cladding in a matte, earth-toned finish, selected for its longevity, fire resistance, and low maintenance requirements. Accents of natural wood paneling are introduced at the main entrance volume to create warmth and a civic presence, contrasting the industrial character of the metal skin.

THE SHATTERBOOK The Shatterbook Residence is designed as a retreat where students can separate academic pressure from personal well‑being. Its signature facade, inspired by the symbolic act of tearing a book, represents the moment students choose to “break away” from school stress at the end of the day. Rather than suggesting destruction, the fractured form expresses release, balance, and the freedom to pause. The
residence

relaxation,
connection, and healthy routines. Lounges, wellness areas, a cafe, and quiet corners offer opportunities to recharge, while shared amenities foster a sense of belonging. The Shatterbook Residence ultimately embodies the importance of work‑life balance. It stands as a daily reminder that students deserve space to breathe, reset, and grow beyond their academic demands.
