A Lifetime of Faith 40 YEARS OF EDUCATION

Step back with us to 1986, when Livingston Christian Schools first opened its doors. Forty years ago, a number rich with biblical meaning: 40 signifies testing, trial, and preparation, followed by transformation, renewal, and God’s promised breakthrough. This is our story: four decades of faithful nurturing, now poised for the next chapter.

Since those early days, when we started as Howell Nazarene Christian School (HNCS) we have loved and shaped countless children regardless of how the buildings changed. As the only K-12 Christian school in Livingston County, our commitment remains unchanged: equipping students through academic excellence and an unwavering biblical worldview to be influential leaders for Christ.

In today’s world, where public schools often present ideas clashing with biblical truth, our children need more than ever a strong, Christ-centered education.

Here at LCS, children grow with a clear identity in Christ, grounded in Scripture, equipped to navigate life with courage and conviction, becoming future leaders who stand firm in faith and influence the world for good.

In the pages ahead you will meet beloved leaders like Ted Nast, faithful families like the Hatts, Martins, Stiles and Jusinos, as well as the pastors who guide our students each day in the light of Christ.

LOVE & LEADERSHIP

Foundational Figure

Imagine a wide-eyed student stepping uncertainly into Livingston Christian Schools’ halls decades ago. Amid the hustle and bustle stood Ted Nast, principal, teacher, shepherd, father figure, and lifelong Wolverine. His warm and loving presence immediately put that child at ease, instilling confidence and a sense of belonging that would shape not only that young life but countless others, forging a legacy for our entire community far beyond his 20+ year tenure.

Ted's leadership navigated turbulent uncertainties and challenges, building a safe haven that blended faith and academics while touching hearts across generations. His guidance, laced with humor, inspired staff and students alike, creating a space where God's truth flourished alongside academic growth.

"There is no doubt that if we are doing what God wants us to do there will be a spiritual battle," Ted once shared. "Maybe there is doubt placed in us about whether we can afford the tuiton or are tempted by sports programs ahead of faith. If we truly do God’s work, he won’t desert us."

“I

was only the facilitator at LCS; Jesus is the true leader of the school.”

LESSONS IN FAITH

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? - Matthew 16:26

Four faithful pastors stand at the heart of Livingston Christian Schools each morning, their gentle voices leading devotion and inviting the light of Christ to guide the day ahead. From the opening prayer to the closing blessing, the entire school staff weaves God's truth into every lesson and moment, creating a true sanctuary where faith is lived deeply and daily.

Through vibrant chapel services that stir the soul, prayer gatherings that draw hearts closer to God, missions that ignite compassion, and Bible classes that spark life-changing discovery, they nurture mind, body, and spirit together. In this thriving community, students embrace faith with courage and learn to carry it boldly into the world.

While larger public schools may boast more amenities or sports programs, we hold fast to Scripture in Matthew, Luke, and Mark: worldly success, wealth, and power are fleeting compared to the richness of eternal spiritual life. Here at LCS, we choose the path that endures forever.

A Legacy of Faith & Love PRAYING IT FORWARD

Meet Mark and Terry Hatt, proud parents of nine children who chose Christian education with open hearts and steady faith. In the 1980s, when they sent their first child to a Christian school in Fowlerville, they wondered if they could afford it.

“As parents, we wanted an extension of our home, somewhere that echoed our values and beliefs, where the foundation was Christ,” Terry shared. What began as a leap of faith grew into a 43-year legacy, with all nine children thriving in faithbased schools, the last four at Livingston Christian Schools.

Through sacrifices (fewer dinners out, no daily coffee runs) the Hatts saw God provide faithfully. “Money was never an issue. We have never gone without,” Terry said. “The bonds created were priceless: classmates became siblings, and the school community became our family.”

Their legacy lives on through daughter Jamie Martin and daughter Erin Paul, who together have sent their 10 children to LCS.

“For 43 consecutive years we’ve invested over $350,000 in Christian education in our lifetime; if we can do it, anybody can!”

COMING FULL CIRCLE

Nurturing

Generations at LCS

Meet young Carole Stiles as a student walking the halls of what was then HNCS (now LCS), soaking in faith-filled lessons up to the sixth grade it was offered. Even though she continued in public school, a seed had been planted: she dreamed of becoming a teacher who could freely share her love for Jesus openly with students, in every single subject.

Years later, when she married her husband Jason, they agreed their children should be immersed in God’s Word every day, not just evenings or weekends at home.

“We needed a school that taught the WHOLE truth: about the Creator, preparing them for earth and eternity,” Carole recalls. Who influenced their kids when they weren’t with them mattered deeply.

Today Carole has come full circle. She returned to LCS as a teacher, pouring her

heart into the next generation. All three of her children attended LCS: eldest son Connor (who met and married LCS grad Carolyn), son Heath, and daughter Lillian. “God’s faithfulness to our school over the last 40 years, and I’ve been here for most of it, has been evident. Why would I want to send my children anywhere else?”

FOREVER FRIENDS

Celebrating Lifelong Bonds at LCS

Let’s go back to a February day in 2011 at Livingston Christian Schools. Eighthgrader Jacqueline noticed ninth-grader Caleb, the basketball player with a warm smile. Their simple friendship grew quietly through shared classes, chapel moments, and hallway talks. They never imagined those days would lead to marriage after graduation, and a joyful little boy filling their home with laughter.

At LCS, through daily biblical teaching, caring teachers, and a community modeling Christ-like love, they learned to lead and serve as a family, love sacrificially as Christ loves the Church, and build a home rooted in faith, commitment, and grace. Those lessons became the foundation of their marriage and guide how they raise their son Asher today.

“Caleb and I met at LCS in February of 2011. What began as a friendship grew into a relationship, although in those early days, I never imagined this cute boy would one day become my husband and a loving, devoted father to our son.”

MISSION POSSIBLE

Learning to Serve Others First

Meet the group of juniors and seniors from Livingston Christian Schools who boarded a bus in the spring of 2025 with hearts ready for adventure and service. That year, the school’s annual mission trip took them to Swannanoa, North Carolina, where recent storms had left families in deep need. Upon arrival, our students poured themselves into construction and demolition work, stocking shelves with essentials, unloading semi-trailers of donations, and bringing practical hope to those decimated by the storms.

In a world often focused on "me first," these young people chose "others first." Serving side by side, they turned their attention from self to community and experienced firsthand how gratitude transforms perspective, overcomes hardship, and better equips them to shine Christ’s light wherever life takes them.

“On this mission trip, our students learned not just the importance of service, but also the transformative power of gratitude.”
