About ARMOR Armor Protective Packaging® manufactures rust prevention and rust removal products that are clean, safe and easy. To protect metal and metal parts, we produce ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology®—that’s the formal name for our “secret recipe” of rust-preventing vapor corrosion inhibitors. ARMOR combines its VCI with materials such as paper or poly film, to create packaging supplies that offer the added benefit of rust prevention. Simply wrap or enclose metal parts in any ARMOR VCI product and quickly the VCIs kick into action to create a blanket of protection on the surface of metal that repels rust.

What is VCI?

VCI stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. When VCI compounds are placed with ferrous or non-ferrous metal in an enclosed space, like a bag, container, toolbox, or bin, something almost magical happens. VCI molecules are released, drawn to the metal surface like a magnet, and they form an ultra-thin protective shield. Think of it as wrapping your metal parts in a warm, cozy blanket that keeps rust away.

At ARMOR we have our own secret formula of VCI—we call it ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology®. We combine ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology with materials like paper, poly film, foam or chipboard, to create packaging materials that protect metal or metal parts while they are in process, in storage or while they are being shipped. What makes ARMOR products so great is that they are a clean, safe and easy replacement for other common rust prevention methods like messy grease, oils or other protective coatings. Using VCI products to protect metal/metal parts also saves on time, materials and money, and they do what ARMOR does best: “Take the Work Out of Your Workday!”.

ARMOR Products ARMOR POLY® VCI Stretch Film

VCI Films ARMOR POLY® Description Rust-preventing film, made of high-tech resins, protects ferrous and non-ferrous metals both as a physical barrier against the elements and emits ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology® which forms a protective shield on the surface of the metal that repels rust.

Benefit Easy-to-use; reduces materials and labor costs; available in rolls, sheeting, bags and tubing.

Application Protects metals while in process, in storage or in transport.

Description Protect metal parts or metal cargo with ARMOR POLY® VCI Stretch Film to both secure parts with strong, puncture-resistant stretch film and prevent rust and corrosion with VCI. Benefit Made using a premium stretch film that is durable, self-clinging, residue-free and recyclable. Available in both hand- and machine-grade, and contains the added benefit of ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology® to protect cargo’s metal contents from rust and corrosion.

Application Wrap individual, large metal parts or equipment; band, bundle, or fasten, metal cargo on pallets, racking systems, or to enclose an entire container for shipping or transport.

SEA Film™ DEFENDER™ Description Multi-layer film designed for rust prevention, barrier protection and increased puncture resistance.

Benefit Unique three-layer construction strategically places VCI on the inside, closest to the metal part, while optimized barrier layers allow the film to be down-gauged by 25-30%. This construction offers high performance using less material and saves on cost.

Application Provides a tough physical barrier against the elements and long-term protection for metals in storage or shipping.

Description Heavy-duty film protects metal in extreme outdoor conditions using a three-layer construction that combines rust-preventing VCI Nanotechnology®, durable barrier protection, and UV resistance for storage or shipment.

Benefit Contains UV stabilizer and UV-resistant pigments to withstand damage due to heat and exposure to UV light. Recyclable, free of oils and grease, and made using 25% less material.

Application Made to protect metal parts from corrosion during outdoor storage or for prolonged exposure to severe conditions in overseas export.

Emitters VCI Paper ARMOR WRAP® Description Double-sided ARMOR WRAP VCI paper delivers hassle-free rust protection—wrap, enclose, or layer metal parts for clean, dry storage or shipping.

Benefit Easy-to-use; environmentally safe, fully recyclable and repulpable, and offered in sheets or rolls of global, multi-metal protection and military-approved formulations.

Application Protects metals while in process, during shutdowns or in storage, or in transport or shipping.

ARMOR VCI Emitters Description ARMOR infuses VCI into carriers like polyurethane foam to create rust-preventing emitters.

In enclosed spaces, these emitters release VCI, forming a protective layer on ferrous and non-ferrous metals to stop rust.

Benefit Clean, safe and easy to apply; foam-pad emitters offer added benefit of cushion.

Application Protect small or delicate metal parts and electronics in packaging, bins, boxes, cabinets, or containers during storage or shipment.

Poly Woven ARMOR WOVEN™ Description Ultra-durable ARMOR WOVEN™ combines woven polypropylene with VCI Nanotechnology® to deliver hassle-free, iron-clad rust protection. Simply wrap, cover, or layer steel coils, plates, tubes, or bar stock for clean, corrosion-free storage or shipping.

Benefit Easy-to-use, oil-free, recyclable, tear-resistant, and available in multiple sizes for heavy-duty, steel protection.

Application Safeguards steel parts during manufacturing, storage, or transport.

Rust Prevention Liquid Dry Coat

™

Description Water-based rust preventative for ferrous metals. Dries clear and touchable, protecting indoor-stored metal for up to one year.

Benefit Clean, oil-free application; reduces mess, hazards, and costs; won’t attract dirt or dust.

Application Spray, dip, or flow coat for a clear, tack-free finish that doesn’t interfere with further processing.

Long-term Storage Rust Removal Liquid Metal Rescue® BATH Description Metal Rescue is a water-based rust remover for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Soak parts to remove light or heavy rust without damaging the metal.

Benefit No harsh acids or scrubbing; simply soak, check and rinse; fume-free, reusable, and easy to dispose.

Application Ideal for onsite rust removal or value-added service. Leaves clean, bare metal and is safe on materials like rubber, plastic, and wood.

ARMOR VAULT™ Long-Term Storage System Description The ARMOR VAULT™ System combines CRUSADER™, SENTINEL™, and FORTRESS Foil™ for long-term corrosion protection—keeping metal parts safe for up to 20 years.

Moisture Control ARMOR SMARTY PAK™ Description The ARMOR SMARTY PAK™ is a super-charged, multi-tasking, rust-preventing powerhouse.

SMARTY PAKs are one-part ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology®, which emits corrosioninhibiting vapors to prevent rust, and one-part specialty desiccant to adsorb moisture.

Benefit Safe and easy-to-use; combined benefit of VCI and desiccant, mess-free and up to 24 months of continuous protection. Also comes in a variety of sizes including: NANO, MINI and QUAD. Application Use where moisture control and VCI are essential; non-dusting, lint-free option when fibrous packaging isn’t allowed; protects metal parts in packaging, storage, or transport.

Description Desiccants are drying agents used to reduce the humidity and moisture in an enclosed space.

ARMOR offers desiccants that range in size from .5 grams to 2,500 grams in clay, silica gel or calcium chloride.

Benefit Safe and easy-to-use, both adsorbs moisture and holds on to it — desiccant does not re-release it; reduces and maintains lower humidity level within packaging for an extended period of time.

Application Use for moisture management during short or long-term storage of metals or during domestic shipping or export.

Common Product Terms VCI, VPI, Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor, Vapor Phase or Contact Corrosion Inhibitor Many manufacturers refer to VCI using their own terminology or custom-created acronyms to describe their particular brand of VCI. They do this to differentiate their VCI from their competitors.

But don’t be confused, terms such as VCI, VPI and MPI are the same… but different. By that we mean, they are different names for the same thing—volatile or vapor phase corrosion inhibitors.

The list below is a sample of a few of the terms you will see used to reference VCI on rust prevention/corrosion control packaging currently offered in the marketplace: • VCI: Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor or Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor • VPI: Vapor Phase Inhibitor or Vapor Paper Inhibitor • MPI: Multi(metal) Purpose Inhibitor or Multi(metal) Phase Inhibitor **The current, generally accepted term used by knowledgeable and experienced companies in North America today is VCI.
