Revised plans lead to
new café
W
hen Santosh Paudel and Karishma Simkhada decided to open their own café, the couple considered a move down south. But COVID changed that, and like many business owners, their plans had to be revised. What a blessing in disguise. Opening in midNovember, The Revised Café in Wyalla Plaza, Newtown, is already a hit with locals. Offering De Bella coffee, this vibrant café offers a menu that elevates the standard Australian breakfast and lunch with flashes of Santosh and Karishma’s Nepalese heritage. The menu is varied with breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Breakfast ranges from a light fruit salad or porridge to pancakes and waffles to the traditional bacon and egg fry-up. The eggs Benedict is a highlight with the eggs cooked perfectly and a generous serving of bacon. Lunch and dinner provide even more options. There are several choices of wraps and burgers, all served with a generous helping of fries on the side. Lighter options include a traditional Caesar salad

By JOSIE ADAMS along with a barramundi and a prawn and bacon salad. The steak salad with hollandaise sauce is a standout and again is more than enough as a main dish. Mains include a range of fish, chicken, pork and beef dishes. Many of them are reminiscent of the simple yet delicious home-cooked meals my nanna used to make, like the chicken breast with mushroom sauce and vegetables. They are also all very reasonably priced between $12-$26. The stand-out dish for me were the traditional Nepalese dumplings or Momo. Handmade by Santosh, they are full of flavour and absolutely delicious. The couple are looking to include more traditional fare through their blackboard specials; it’s a great idea, as they are the only place in town to offer authentic Nepalese cuisine.
The Revised Cafe is certainly worth a visit. The food is yummy, the servings satisfying and the service outstanding.
