Newly-webs

THE cost of paper, printing and postage of invitations can certainly add up – so take things online. Creating a website for your wedding (for a small cost) is a great way to bring others together for your special day. From details of times and location to links to the photo gallery following the wedding, many couples are choosing this more modern approach.

Someone new

A GOOD photographer isn’t always someone well known. Keep an eye out for someone who doesn’t charge the big bucks and is relatively unknown. Everyone has their big break eventually and if you find someone before theirs, you could save some serious dollars.

Setting a budget ACCORDING to MoneySmart, the average Australian wedding costs $36,200. The following tips can help you in setting your budget.

Invest in a wedding planner IF you want to save money, you

must spend money. Wedding planners are experts at what they do and can often draw on years of experience working with brides, budgets and their extensive professional networks. All these things can help with your big-day budget.

BUY your own booze. If your venue allows you to bring your own, do it, and return anything your guests don’t drink.

Borrow, don’t buy

TO save money on accessories for your big day, borrow from family and friends instead. Did someone say “something borrowed”?

Find your style. While you’re doing all your research, be sure to start a Pinterest board of photos you like.

Package it up. Many photographers will tailor a package to suit you. You will need to ask how many copies of photos it includes, if your package includes digital copies of your images and if the price includes enlargements or albums. The devil is in the detail. Video

While photos capture the day, they don’t allow you to really experience the day in full. Video lets you hear and see yourself making your vows, the speeches and readings first hand. If you choose to engage a videographer there are a number of things to consider: Do you want them to be really unobtrusive, or do you not care as long as they get the best possible footage? Will they stay for the reception? Do you want them at the house before the wedding? Decide if you want a full-length, blow-by-blow account of your day, or maybe you’d just like a really great highlights package. You can also ask your videographer to record messages from your guests.

Art-deco

THINK Great-Gatsby style lavishness. This timeless style includes plenty of ornate gold and sparkles, with geometric shapes and sharp lines. If glitz and jazz-age glam are your cup of tea, then having a roaring art deco themed wedding will be your kind of style.

Bohemian

THIS cool and carefree theme exudes beauty. Boho brides are encouraged to keep their venue decorations simplistic, with features like oriental rugs lining the aisle, decorative pillows for guests to keep comfortable and of course, plenty of lace.

What’s your style? WHETHER a lavish beach wedding has always been on your wish list or a casual country affair is more your style, we are certainly spoilt for choice here on the Coffs Coast. Before choosing your venue, consider the theme you’re going for.

The feel, style, time of year, how many guests, what they’ll be wearing: they are all things to take into consideration. Some popular non-traditional wedding themes across the Coffs Coast this season include:

Rustic

DOES the thought of string lights, jam jars, twine, lace and anything made of wood give you butterflies? This homely theme is perfect for fans of DIY with a more rural venue (such as an old barn or farmhouse) giving major rustic vibes.

Garden party

FOR those looking for a more intimate, casual ceremony an outdoor garden party-themed wedding is a must. Perfect for those looking to wed in the spring or summer.

Perfect posies and beautiful bouquets Think beyond colour and flowers in these water-wise times. Succulents and herbs are giving blooms a run for their money. Beautifully arranged twigs, vines and driftwood can also be earthy and dramatic. Some florists offer “forever bouquets” which are a collection of treasure and jewels that are arranged like a bouquet that you can keep forever. Whatever you decide, it’s important to heed the advice from your florist and be open to suggestions. Not only do they know what’s in season, what will complement your theme/vibe best, they may also be able to save you some money by bringing in alternatives you haven’t even thought of. There are no right or wrong choices, but having a florist you connect with and understand your vision is key to helping your dream arrangement come to life.

the PERFECT VENUE for your dream COUNTRY-STYLE WEDDING The Wedding Our estate offers several options to hold the perfect ceremony. The barn is a beautiful, rustic venue that can be customised to create your own dream wedding and is an ideal wet weather option for both the ceremony and reception. The Estate A stunning country estate, comes with a modern, two bedroom cottage. We offer a unique and exquisite wedding venue linking the beauty of old world charm with a modern touch. FROM a simple posy of roses to an elaborate arrangement of exotic or native flowers, bouquets are an important aspect of your wedding day, but the options are limited to what’s in season. If you are completely immovable as to which flower you would like, you may have to arrange your whole wedding around its flowering season. Are your blooms soft, gentle or cascading for a traditional romantic wedding or are they bright and textured for a bit of drama and passion? A great place to start is your bouquet. You may be planning a minimalistic day or for some brides, statement floral arrangements are the main feature of the styling. Knowing the bouquet that you’re after will then inspire the colour and textures you want, and can help with determining the rest of your styling.

WEDDINGS 2019-2020

Find ‘the’ dress SOME women have dreamed of their wedding day as long as they can remember and have an exact image of how they want to look. Others haven’t ever really given it thought until the moment arrives. Wherever you sit on the spectrum, choosing your dress can be one of the most exciting (and stressful) parts of planning your wedding. Before you head out to the bridal stores or start designing your dream dress, know your body shape and what style suits. Once you have an idea of what you want, ensure you take your bridesmaids or trusted relative or friend with you to shop. You want someone who will be honest and whom you trust to give you direct feedback without getting too emotional. Keep an open mind. Remember the staff helping you decide do this for a living.

The Pear:

Opt for gowns that will enhance your upper body while skimming over the bottom half. Styles that work: Empire, A-Line and Ball gowns Avoid: Sheath

The Rectangle:

Choose a gown that nips in at the waist or accentuates your lean body. Styles that work: Sheath cut on the basis to create shape, A-Line and Empire gowns. Avoid: Off-the-shoulder or halter-neck gowns

The Hourglass:

It’s often considered a body shape that can wear anything but it’s always a good idea to choose a gown that accentuates your waist and works to show off your bust or hips. Styles that work: mermaid, sheath and trumpet Avoid: empire-line gowns that add weight to the bust or hips

The Apple:

An apple shape tends to carry most of their weight around the waist with a fuller bust and hips as well. Styles that work: A-Line, Ball gown Avoid: Sheath

WEDDINGS 2019-2020

Suit yourself in a classic 2019 trend predictions:

colours for suits that can be used time and time again. What the groom wears also depends on location. For a beach wedding, the groom and his groomsmen may opt for a more relaxed look – a smart-yet-casual white shirt with cotton pants, for example. Groomsmen often wear matching suits while the groom may wear something similar with, say, a matching tie.

ALL eyes won’t just be on the bride come your special day. The groom’s attire is also important and finding the perfect fit is a must. More versatile than a wedding dress, a suit can be worn again for other occasions, so it is important to get the right one the first time around. A traditional, timeless look would be your typical black-tie suit. If paired with a bow tie and white collared shirt, the groom will instantly have an elegant, classy look about him. Black, navy blue and charcoal are all

■ The three-piece suit. Very practical as the jacket can be removed and shirt sleeves rolled up come party time. Three-piece suits should be top of your 2019 groom suit trend list. ■ Something bold and bright. Think vibrant suits in hues such as purple and ink blue (both on trend). This will certainly wow the crowd. ■ Slim fit is in. From straight or tapered trouser legs replicated from the waist up with a slim jacket, to emphasise the groom’s chest and shoulders.

WEDDINGS 2019-2020

Your day, your look YOUR hair and make-up on your big day should accentuate your natural beauty – a glowing representation of you. The last thing you want on your wedding day is to look in the mirror, ready to walk down the aisle to marry the partner of your dreams, and

hardly recognise the person staring back at you. There are a few keys things to remember when planning your look and choosing the professionals to help you on the big day: Choose stylists you connect with, who share your vision and you feel

comfortable trusting to achieve your desired look is imperative. Do your research. Who has great reviews? Asking for recommendations from recently married friends or acquaintances is a great place to start. Make a Pinterest board. What looks do you love? Pick a few and you’ll soon see a theme coming through. Before you get to your stylist though, make sure to cull to 3-5 – too many can be confusing and send mixed messages. Be realistic. Think about the season you’re getting married in, what the weather will be like and what’s going to work best. If you’ve got thick, long locks and your wedding is the middle of summer, it’s probably not a good idea to have it all out with elaborate waves. Always book a trial for both hair and make-up. Make sure you’re on the same page from the get-go, not morning of the wedding. This will also allow you to make tweaks and changes if you’re not 100 per cent happy. Don’t ask for too many opinions. This is your day, your way. You want to be feeling it, in every way shape or form – no matter what anyone else thinks. If you love it then it’s perfect.

Creating conversations

WHO said colouring in was child’s play? White paper tablecloths accompanied by some pencils and crayons will keep guests busy and entertained. The hand-drawn scribbles and messages also make for a great keepsake … provided not much is spilled on them.

What in the word

GIVING guests at each table a “fill-in-the-blank” style story book on the newlyweds is a way to keep things interesting. For example, “John and Mary met at ….. on a …..” At the end of the event, each table can read out their stories – however wild and wacky they may be.

Make guests’ day, too Keeping guests entertained

FROM live bands to DJs, jukeboxes to wedding singers, each wedding is unique when it comes to the music played on the special day. When choosing your music, there are a few things to keep in mind, such as: ■ Is there space for a live band? Will you have to hire any electrical equipment? ■ What songs will you include on

your playlist for the DJ? ■ Does the location have an impact on the acoustics? Is there an echo? Ultimately, there are no rules when it comes to what music you choose to play on the big day.

Venue

OUTDOOR ceremonies not only drastically cut energy consumption but can also provide a beautiful location for your ceremony. The Coffs Coast is home to some of the most beautiful locations for outdoor weddings. Think gardens, beaches, backyards and parks – these locations are perfect for large or intimate ceremonies; just be sure to have a back-up plan if the weather is poor.

Food

Eco love on your big day

AIM for locally sourced, organic products where you can on your menu. Others may choose to go for a more vegetarian/vegan style menu. Whatever your vision, investing in a caterer who specialises in these foods could be an idea – even better if they come equipped with a compost bin for food scraps.

Decor

FROM speaking to your local florist about home-grown or local varieties to buying second-hand materials to decorate your special day, there’s no harm in keeping the environment in

mind as you plan your wedding. Remember, the decorations you choose can play a big role in setting the tone on the day, so why not integrate some eco-friendly décor into your big day?

The bride

ALL eyes will be on you and your dress come your special day, however have you considered possibly borrowing one from a family member or friend? After all, what better way to tick the “something borrowed” box than wearing a dress that has also been a part of someone else’s magical day? Choosing to use organic skincare and cruelty-free make-up will also see you glowing (naturally) from the inside out.

Wedding gifts

KEEP the eco-friendly good vibes green and going when you put together your wedding registry. From organic-cotton sheets to recycled glassware, your list is the perfect place to instil your environmental values. Alternatively, asking guests to donate to charity instead of buying a gift is also a great option.

Capturing your precious memories in motion

WEDDINGS 2019-2020

Twists on tradition MODERN times call for modern twists on tradition – and weddings are no exception. More and more, couples are opting to step outside the age-old wedding traditions and putting their own flair to make it more meaningful for them.

First looks

MANY couples dream of the moment they first see each other as the bride graces the aisle. For others it can be quite overwhelming. A great option for the latter is a first look: the bride and groom getting a moment together before the ceremony. This can calm the nerves and serve as a beautiful moment to just reset and take it all in before the ceremony begins. You can even go as far as to have your photographs taken before the ceremony.

First dance

Cut the cake cutting

MANY couples are now serving smaller cakes as part of a display or even as centrepieces for their table. Individual cupcakes (for example) are not only trendy, but are also often a cheaper alternative.

Party with your pets

FOR many, their pets are considered a part of the family with some choosing to include them in the celebrations.

Reception dress

BRIDAL gowns can be heavy and restrictive – the look you’re after may not be conducive to hours on the dance floor after the ceremony. Having a reception dress to change into can not only make for a comfortable change but an excuse for another gorgeous outfit.

Say goodbye to traditional exit

TRADITIONALLY, the newlyweds are given a grand exit and sent off amid a shower of flower petals, confetti or rice. More recently, couples have been staying until the end of the night alongside their guests.

6983061aa

MORE couples are ditching the sometimes awkward and drawn out first dance to your classic love song. Rather than going for the obvious

love songs, choose something that’s special to you both. You could really ramp it up with a proper choreographed number that includes your bridal party.
