HOW AIR ENTRAINING AGENT CAN HELP WITH FREEZE DAMAGE Air Entrained concrete is concrete that has had small, stable air bubbles introduced into the cement paste during the mixing stage by adding Armair. The most common reason for introducing these air bubbles is to help protect the fully cured concrete against the harmful effects of the freeze-thaw weathering that occurs during the winter months. Air entrainment works by connecting the capillary voids that exist in the concrete and lie near the top surface of the concrete. Usually, the capillary voids remain unconnected, but during winter conditions they fill with water, which freezes and expands due to temperature drop. This expansion of the frozen water applies a stress force to the top surface of the concrete and during the winter season the concrete will experience a freezing and thawing action many times, this action eventually weakens the top surface of the concrete which causes it to crack and break up. Usage of Armair also gives benefit of extra cohesion which in turn means that the concrete will be more durable and produce a good final strength. When pouring and placing air-entrained concrete, it is also possible to slightly reduce the water content as the air entrainer has a ‘ball bearing’ or ‘lubrication’ effect on the concrete which increases the workability of the mixture, making the concrete easier to move about and place.

DURALIGHT IN MALAYSIA In November our Malaysian dealer took delivery of their first Armcon DuraLight mixer. This Dealership has been two years in the making and involved Ben Gregg and James Coghlan travelling to Malaysia to help mount the mixer and train the Malaysian team on the use of the mixer. In addition, the Armblock will also form part of the agreement and during the visit, the first two Armblocks in Malaysia were poured.
Our engineer James Coghlan's commitment extended beyond the training sessions, dedicating an additional three weeks to ensure the seamless installation of our mixer onto Malaysian truck. His detailed approach not only ensured immediate functionality but also empowered the Malaysian team, providing them with the necessary expertise to independently mount the mixer onto their trucks in the future. This partnership signifies a pivotal moment, merging innovative technology with hands-on expertise, and sets the stage for a flourishing partnership for mutual success and advancement in the realm of concrete mixing solutions.
