In 1974, Alan Leveritt dropped out of UALR during his senior year and started the Arkansas Times with a $200 investment from bookstore owner Jim Bell. Years later, Bell confessed he had written “donation” on the check stub, never expecting to see his $200 again. Since then the Arkansas Times has become what Leveritt describes as “the voice of the blue community in a very red state.” The magazine will celebrate its 49th anniversary in September. Leveritt is a longtime advocate for legal, medical and recreational cannabis. He lives and farms on his great-grandparents’ 87 acres, where he raises heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and a wide variety of other fruits and vegetables for restaurants and farmers markets.

BRIAN NICHOL, MD, INTERVENTIONAL PAIN CONSULTANTS

Dr. Brian Nichol is a board certified anesthesiologist practicing chronic pain management in North Little Rock. The medical use of cannabis has been an interest of his since noticing the improved quality of life his patients were experiencing when self-medicating with cannabis. He has been guiding patients on the successful and effective medical use of cannabis and has been an advocate for more than two decades. Prior to the establishment of Arkansas’s medical marijuana program, Tyler pursued a career in music, teaching and touring as a drummer for various Arkansas acts. In 2016, he won the Arkansas Times Musician’s Showcase. As he explored different strain profiles to address joint pain and anxiety, Tyler’s interest in cannabis shifted from recreational to medicinal. Currently, Tyler brings his personal knowledge and experience to Natural State, where he provides customer service and education for the state’s 38 active medical dispensaries. ERIN GRAY, HEALING HEMP OF ARKANSAS

Erin was born in Hattiesburg MS, but raised in Arkansas. She graduated high school from Bryant and attended UALR. Erin worked at Dillards Corporate office for 12 years in the Visual Merchandising department preparing her for a career in the retail industry, and worked in real estate in both MS and Arkansas. Erin began her venture into the world of cannabis with ownership stake in Greenlight Helena. She has developed a passion for the benefits of medical cannabis and breaking through the stigma and legal hurdles to provide relief to those in need. As the MMJ industry was being established, Erin and her partners at Healing Hemp of Arkansas became aware of the lack of a CBD industry in Arkansas. Healing Hemp was founded on the cusp of the 2018 Farm Bill being passed. We have spent 5+ years learning in an ever changing and growing hemp industry remaining committed to providing the health benefits of hemp derived CBD products. Julie Brents has thirty-five years’ experience operating businesses in Arkansas and five years combined experience managing agricultural operations for a certified, commercial ten acre medical marijuana cultivation facility and presided over inhouse operations for a licensed, medical marijuana dispensary with a CO2 extraction lab in the state of California. Julie was born in Arkansas and has previously taught adjunct courses with the School of Human and Environmental Sciences for the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. For the past five years, she has founded, launched and lead operations for multiple Arkansas businesses, including; Shake Collaboration, LLC, a southern-based branding and product development company distributing organic products to U.S. wholesalers and e-commerce consumers and Shake Brands Corp., a professional platform for brand licensing, product manufacturing and nationwide retail distribution.
