THE NATIONAL READING MONTH CULMINATION Reading is a tool for learning. One has to master the skills in reading to show understanding of the lesson, appreciate literature, interpret poems, solve mathematical problems, derive conclusions in scientific research, create meanings through art and appreciate message of songs. The Department of Education Division of Sarangani celebrated the Division Culmination of Reading Month Celebration for English and Filipino with a theme: “Nasa Pagbasa Ang Pag-asa” last November 26, 2014 at Alabel National Science High School, Regional Science High School for Region XII. The event was participated by more or less two thousand people composed of elementary pupils, high school students, teachers, parents, DepEd officials, government officials and other guests. The event started with a short opening program where the highlight was the story telling by Gov. Steve Chiongbian-Solon and Schools Division Superintendent Isagani S. Dela Cruz to Kidergarten and Grade 1 pupils as their direct audience. However, the crowd also listened attentively to both of them. After the opening program was the contest proper in the following events: ELEMENTARY LEVEL (ENGLISH AND FILIPINO) • Spelling C-V-C • Matching Game/Pagpapantig • Choral reading/Madulang Pagbasa • Read-A-Thon • Read and Draw • Jazz Chants/Readers Theater • Reciprocal Reading

All of the contests were done simultaneously. In the afternoon was the closing program and awarding of prizes. Medals and certificates were given to winners and coaches. The event ended successfully at around 4:30 PM.
