The UAE Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Mr Sultan Mohamed Majed Al Ali, talks about why Expo 2020 Dubai is so important for the UAE, Ireland and the world.
The United Arab Emirates are blessed with a strategic geographical location between the east and west, making this country an international economic hub accessible to major emerging economies and the heavily populated markets of the Asia-Pacific region, linking shipping routes and facilitating the transportation of goods between the various regions in the Middle East, Eurasia and Africa. This is why the United Arab Emirates were by far the best choice as the hosting country of the World Expo 2020.
Traditionally, the World Exposition is one of the few mass events that command worldwide attention where people come together to create, collaborate, exchange and innovate. Deferred for a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Expo 2020 Dubai is one of the first truly global, post-pandemic international gatherings of nations.
This one is the first ever World Expo held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region and it is hosted in Dubai, a city of the future in one of the world’s most inclusive, diverse, tolerant, ambitious, and futurefocused nations, in the year of the UAE’s Golden Jubilee. Expo Dubai 2020, with its grand ambition of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ has recorded without any doubt the most culturally and ethnically diverse audience and that’s mainly because, for the first time in World Expo history, every participating country has its own pavilion where everyone can enjoy immersive cultural experiences and discover what makes each country unique and irreplaceable.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Expo 2020 Dubai has attracted millions of visitors from all around the world both on-site and virtually through the Virtual Expo Dubai website.

Innovation & Collaboration Expo 2020 Dubai is centred around innovation, research, science, collaboration and inspiration while at the same time it embodies the UAE’s commitment to build a cleaner, safer and healthier future for all.
Expo 2020 Dubai is a platform for expanding knowledge and exchanging ideas; for introducing important debates about the future of our planet and how to tackle major global challenges, such as climate change, equal access to education, health care, tolerance and inclusivity.
The technology and innovation on display is more relevant than ever. Expo 2020 Dubai brings together ground-breaking technology and innovative ideas, grouped into the three themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. It is a unique global experience designed to bring people, communities and countries together in order to build bridges, develop a shared space together, strengthen ties over borders and learn from one another.
As well as being the celebration of unity, opportunity, creativity and sustainability Expo 2020 Dubai is also driving tourism and has created thousands of new jobs and enormous demand for new facilities, including housing, hotels, shopping malls and entertainment complexes.
Ireland has been a very committed and active Expo 2020 Dubai participant showcasing the very best of Irish entrepreneurship, as well as scientific, technological and innovation activities among various fields of the near future.

UAE Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Mr Sultan Mohamed Majed Al Ali,
The Expo 2020 audience has the privilege to be introduced to and mesmerised by the renowned and rich Irish culture, arts, literature, traditional music and dance through a variety of cultural events and performances like ‘Riverdance’, ‘Expo World Choir’ and so many more. It was a great pleasure to have welcomed the Riverdance team to perform in front of thousands at the EXPO stage.
Expo 2020 Dubai is offering Ireland - as well as every other participating country - a stage in front of an enormous global and multicultural audience to promote the Emerald Island as a fascinating place to live, study and work and a beautiful destination to visit and do business.
Ambassador Al Ali points out that many Irish companies have already enjoyed success after setting up business in the UAE; they operate across various sectors, including ICT, engineering, life sciences, premium foods, aerospace and education.
EXPO 2020 Dubai has created countless new opportunities for economic cooperation between the UAE and Ireland in many sectors including renewable energy, IT, agri-food, immunology and health sector as well as tourism and culture.
The strong relations and the economic partnerships between the two countries have been excellent and are growing further. The visits of many Irish Ministers to Expo 2020 Dubai demonstrate both Ireland’s and UAE’s intention to strengthen trade ties.
There are substantial business prospects and tangible opportunities for Irish companies looking to start, expand or relocate in the UAE. The UAE offers endless choices of business premises and locations. Depending on your business activity, you are at liberty to choose a place appropriate for the operations, whether on the mainland or in a free zone.
