The goal of this project was to create a Preformance and Social Center as an addition to the NEC existing Domitory.

Cambridge Meditation Center Government Center Rachael Gaydos
Meditation is represented through a journey in the Cambridge Meditation Center. The journey is divided into three specific parts: Lost, Reflect, Renew. In the first section, Lost is represented through a series of colunms that block the viewer’s path from a direct exit of the room. The individual has to wander through darkness until s/he can find their way out. The next section, Reflect, contains six separate spaces for indiviaduals to tuck themselves away from the public eye and connect to their thoughts and emotions. The medium lighting and symmetry of the room allows a relaxing and meditative atmosphere. The last portion of the building represents Renewment where an individual is brought to a space that gradually opens to the outside. The walls and ceiling pull away into the structure, letting natural light pour through the space, giving the feeling of optimism and contentment. Overall, this structure provides a complete journey of being lost in a strange and unfamiliar environment, finding a place of rest to reflect on oneself, and leaving feeling ready to move on with a positive outlook.
