E-twinning project: “We and the “others”

A FEW WORDS The core aim of the project “We and the others” was to cultivate social skills to the students about social problems and specifically to sensitize kids and adults about the refugees. Including the basic and thinking skills, the project focused on bringing to notice and cultivate most of the skills of education of the 21th century and the personal quality skills (European Commission, 2012). Beyond the learning to the students with the biomatic/experiment method, the teachers learned new teaching techniques and practices, used digital tools, shared their knowledge and upgraded their teaching by using innovative approaches.

In this way, it is obvious that the learning network, as an e-twinning project, gives the opportunity to the involved members - teachers and students to expand their knowledge, to cultivate their skills, to open their horizons, to develop their personality, through the common goals, the interactive and creative/artistic works and the playful activities. The school community energes and develops fertile dialogue between its members. Also, the school improvement is getting better because the quality of teaching and learning is improving. The cooperation between the schools distinguishes the positive points of the schools and all the schools have to offer something to the educational community.

About the specific topic of our project, we had to approach the refugees problems begging from familiar things. The students recognized the benefits of their homeland and applied them on every country. They were informed, touched

rights. They made an attempt to be in the refugees’ situation through creative games, they played games of roles and did creative writing. At the end they presented to their local communities their products.

From the seat of the project coordinator, I have to say that the good communication and the trust between the members are the keys to materialize an e-twinning project, gaining the interest of the participants and succeeding goals. As a teacher I have to say that the participation to an eTwinning project adds interest to the routine of every day to the school (Argiri Mpiliouri).

Old partners and new ones have been the successful key for a project during which, little by little, pupils acquired the awareness of such an important social problem. Thank you all, and … let’s hope for a future collaboration (Maria Rosaria Rogato).

Awareness, empathy, sharing and caring ... The others turned into us (we), we composed unity. The lines are erased and we created something beyond words. Thank you for your precious contribution dear kids and teachers of all the participant countries (Yusuf Bitmez)

Another successful project came to the end. A success project was based on the collaboration between old and new participants. This project gave many things and learned a lot to the students and the teachers. It brought us closer and gave us a lesson about the humanity and acceptance. Have a nice summer,

World Day of Human Rights 10/12

What did you learn personally?

ITALY: This project enriched my professional development because I practiced on pedagogical practices and new digital tools such as sway and adobe spark.

GREECE: For another time the involvement to an eTwinning project confirmed to me my opinion that these project open the teachers’ and pupils’ horizons and specially these cultivate the digital literature and the English language.

CYPRUS: About pedagogical practices: Collaborative writing and new digital tools (Animoto, Kizoa, PowToon) TURKEY: The students become aware of the global culture via the new language (English) they learn. We updated ourselves with the new trends of 21st century skills. Etwinning projects led the students find an opportunity do deal with the problems of todays world.

2. What knowledge did you share with the other participants of networks?

ITALY: I shared the use of Google survey that I learned in recent times. I used it to create a satisfaction survey at the end of the second step of the project.

GREECE: I shared the use of digital tools, as todaysmeet, zunal, tricider, sway, creating guidelines for them.

Also, I suggested working on a webquest and the team worked on it.

CYPRUS: I shared the shape poem technique TURKEY: Thanks to the suggestions and proposals of the Greek coordinator, we generally accepted the sharings of them. Because it was our first etwinning activity we learned a lot from this interaction.

3. How did you find the communication between the participants of the project?

4. What did you learn from this network experience that you believe you’ll use in your teaching?

GREECE: I learned that the pupils can to use with right and safe way the internet if they have good directions and information.

5. What do you think that your school learned?

ITALY: My school has gained a lot. The dissemination of the project to the children’s parents gave me the sensation of how has been important the work that we realized all together.

GREECE: The schools gained with many ways. It gained the improvement of teaching, the import of new tools in the teaching, the involvement of the school teachers, the parents’ satisfaction about the project, the new skills that cultivated to the pupils.

CYPRUS: to accept other people, to understand a huge social problem and to collaborate with others TURKEY: Our school was happy to be in touch with other countries. Being part of this project gave us the chance of expressing ourselves, brainstorming all together how to find solutions and the school become aware of new tools, how to make prsentations.

6. Did this project offer you something new (e.x. ideas, options, etc)?

ITALY: This project realized with special and professional colleagues left me a baggage of knowledge and experiences that. I am sure, I will reuse in the future GREECE: For another time I worked with wonderful, hard-working partners and I exchanged and shared with them new ideas.

CYPRUS: Every country’s work was a new idea, all fresh and organized TURKEY: To be honest, most of the ideas and processes we have gone through were new to me. I really would like to keep going .

7. Will you be involved in a similar project in the future?

ITALY: Yes, I hope I will be involved.

GREECE: Of course!

CYPRUS: I’m sure I will
