FERAL HOGS Priority: Support stiffer penalties and expanded enforcement for transporting live feral hogs Bill # Background Knowingly and willfully transporting wild or feral hogs should be illegal. While feral hogs are currently found in every county in our state, their numbers are increasing because of this practice. Talking points  Right now there is no penalty associated with transporting feral hogs.  Punitive measures, like fines and threat of jail time, should help discourage this type activity. Farm Bureau Policy Pest, weed and disease control 142 We support active programs: 5) for stricter enforcement to eliminate feral hogs and stronger penalties for individuals who release hogs into the wild; Arkansas Game and Fish Commission 158 We urge state and federal agencies, public health organizations, and legislative bodies to: (1) develop a satisfactory definition of feral hogs and to clarify the roles of various state and federal agencies, public health organizations, and legislative bodies regarding jurisdictional and regulatory control of feral hogs; and (2) develop necessary fines and penalties to act as sufficient deterrents to the illegal release of feral hogs into the wild.
