Proud Champions of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme All of our member racecourses participate in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, a nationwide initiative for those with disabilities that may not be visible. A sunflower lanyard discretely signals to staff that the person wearing the lanyard may need additional support or a little more time when attending racedays. Guests are welcome to bring their own lanyards or to register in advance by contacting the racecourse they’ll be attending. Sunflower lanyards can also be collected at certain entrance points. If you would like more information, please ask a member of staff.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Tough to rule out any of the quartet but the eye is drawn to THE TOOJUMPA. She’s yet to taste success in this sphere, but having joined leading trainer Fergal O’Brien and tumbled further in the weights, she’s taken to strike. THE DURALOCK GROUP CONDITIONAL JOCKEYS’ MARES’ HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) (Hereford Mares’ Handicap Chase Series Qualifier)
FRED & MERCY RIMELL
A
t 12.45pm this afternoon Worcester Racecourse recognises the training achievements of Fred and Mercy Rimell. Fred was crowned Champion National Hunt Trainer on five occasions spanning 25 years from his first title in 1951 to his fifth in 1976. Amongst his many highlights as a trainer were his four winners of the Grand National, namely Rag Trade in 1976, Gay Trip in 1970, Nicolaus Silver in 1961 and E S B in 1956 who benefited from Devon Loch’s inexplicable collapse on the run-in. Moreover, an unprecedented fifth success looked likely when Andy Pandy led the field a merry dance in Red Rum’s historic third win in 1977, only for him to become another victim of Becher’s Brook on the second circuit when clear of the field. Andy Pandy was to bounce back at Sandown Park a few weeks later giving Fred his only success in the Whitbread Gold Cup. Winners at the Cheltenham Festival were commonplace for Fred and two victories in the Gold Cup with Woodland Venture in 1967 and Royal Frolic nine years later confirmed his place amongst the greats of National Hunt trainers. As well as the Gold Cup, the other two major races at the Festival have also headed his way with Comedy Of Errors winning the Champion Hurdle in 1973 and then regaining his title two years later and Another Dolly who was awarded the Champion Chase in 1980. Another major training feat was to saddle three winners of the fiercely competitive Triumph Hurdle between 1969 and 1978. In wasn’t just with staying chasers that Fred could weave his magic as his Mackeson Gold Cup record proves, having prepared the winner on four occasions. Remarkably those victories followed in consecutive years form 1968 to 1971 with Gay Trip taking home the prize on two of those occasions inbetween his Grand National victory in 1970. Indeed it was Gay Trip’s Aintree success that started off a plethora of two-and-a half mile chasers attempting to win the Grand National and as not one of them has succeeded in the following 29 years, it puts into perspective that training feat. Gaye Brief was another Championship winner for the Rimell team when Fred’s wife, Mercy, who took over her husband’s licence following his passing prepared him to power away with the 1983 Champion Hurdle. Fittingly the quality of the winners adorning the Roll of Honour for the Fred Rimell Memorial Chase is worthy of the great trainer’s name. Recent winners of this race include the 1999 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner, Call Equiname, the 1993 King George VI Chase winner, Barton Bank, the 1998 Tripleprint Gold Cup winner, Northern Starlight and the Grade I Feltham Novices’ Chase winner of 1994, See More Indians.

DEMOPOLIS might have been outbattled at Fontwell when last seen in March but it was still easily his best effort since coming over to Britain and that was only his third career start over fences. Out On The Tear took well to chasing last season and the drop back in trip will suit, while When You’re Ready and Across The Line are interesting debutants to this sphere. 1-2-3: 1.DEMOPOLIS (FR) 2.OUT ON THE TEAR (IRE) 3.WHEN YOU’RE READY (IRE) KEY

RACE SUMMARY
UCANAVER was above average in bumpers and impressive on her reappearance last term, so she’s fancied to make a winning start over hurdles on her first outing since March. Malaita arrives with a similar profile but might not be quite so well tuned up as the selection, where as Rebel Roxy should be ready to go knowing her stable. 1-2-3: 1.UCANAVER 2.REBEL ROXY (IRE) 3.MALAITA KEY

GREAT BRITISH BONUS SCHEME
HORSE WELFARE It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected whilst a diagnosis of the injury is made by one of the three veterinary surgeons deployed around the course. The screens are designed to afford privacy during this diagnosis. Please do not always assume the worse, and at all times the horse’s welfare is our paramount concern.

RACE SUMMARY FAIR FRONTIERES lost out only narrowly to a useful type in a big-field maiden hurdle at Navan in March, so he looks the one to beat with further progress on the cards for his new stable. The Grand Visir doesn’t look like he’ll reach the level he has on the Flat over hurdles, but he’s still shown enough to suggest he’s capable of winning a race or 2.
