Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: CHAPATI trained by J Coulson, Heaton, 241 miles. RACE SUMMARY
KNIGHT DESTROYER has gone up 9lb for last month’s breakthrough success in this sphere, but he’s still 10lb below his last winning hurdles mark and should prove a tough nut to crack. Yaazaain was behind Uncle O and Begoodtoyourself on chase debut at Market Rasen, but he possesses greater potential than those rivals and is second choice ahead of Special Buddy, who has been knocking on the door.

RACE SUMMARY Cases can be made much for each member of the sextet, but ELIOS D’OR is clearly the one with the greatest momentum on his side. Indeed, Robert Walford’s charge has improved with back-to-back C&D victories in recent weeks and is confidently expected to extend his winning run. Though foiled in his hat-trick bid at Uttoxeter, Siannes Star remains of interest and is next best ahead of Leapaway. 1-2-3: 1.ELIOS D’OR (FR) 2.SIANNES STAR (IRE) 3.LEAPAWAY (IRE) KEY colours

Proud Champions of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme All of our member racecourses participate in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, a nationwide initiative for those with disabilities that may not be visible. A sunflower lanyard discretely signals to staff that the person wearing the lanyard may need additional support or a little more time when attending racedays. Guests are welcome to bring their own lanyards or to register in advance by contacting the racecourse they’ll be attending. Sunflower lanyards can also be collected at certain entrance points. If you would like more information, please ask a member of staff.
