WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for An Evening of Queen Racenight. After the sweltering temperatures last week, this week sees the temperatures come down to a much more manageable level and will be a welcome respite today for both the horses and attendees

Last week was a real challenge with Amber and Red warnings across much of the south throughout the week, which led to a number of abandoned midweek fixtures elsewhere, so we were delighted to still be able to hold our Ladies Day on Saturday, albeit pushed back from an afternoon fixture to an evening one with the slightly cooler temperatures Full credit to my team both on and off the track for their tireless work in coming in at 4am during the week to water the track away from the heat of the day and to the office team for contacting all hospitality guests and ticket holders about the change in timings once the decision was taken on Wednesday in conjunction with the BHA. Thankfully their hard work and dedication was rewarded with a sizeable crowd in attendance of around 4500 and so many people commented to me on what a wonderful atmosphere it was throughout the evening, which I feel is something truly special about racing at Windsor.

Turning to today, we are excited to have the Queen theme back in action once again, which will include live music after the racing on the stage on the Paddock Lawn performed by Supersonic Queen and promises to be a lively set with all the classic Queen songs. Tonight also acts as the start of a half-term break, as a quick reminder for our members and regular attendees there is no fixture here next Monday as the team take a well-deserved break from racing after 12 fixtures in May & June That being said, we are hosting a 3 day music festival here on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend, which is an important part of our business plan to maximise use of the venue outside of our 26 racedays, so the rest is shortlived for a number of the team!

Enjoy your evening and we look forward to hopefully seeing you back here in a fortnight.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
