WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for what will undoubtedly be another exciting evening of Monday Night Racing On Saturday we enjoyed a fantastic 90s Gents Evening here with a lively crowd, 7 fantastic races and then some great music on the stage on the Paddock Lawn with all the big anthems from that decade played in front of an enthusiastic audience.

Today’s theme is Country & Western and we are really excited to be introducing this theme to Windsor for the first time. We have around 70 line-dancers performing and teaching people how to participate in line-dancing at various stages throughout the evening, before Hoedown Showdown take to the stage after racing to really get the party going. We have cowboys hats for sale so there is no excuse for not getting involved with the evening’s theme!

Turning to the racing, tonight is the final round of the Fitzdares Sprint Series (Race 4) before the final takes place on August 11th for the princely prize money purse of £75,000. As ever, we are extremely grateful to Balthazar, Nick and all the team at Fitzdares for their fantastic and on-going support of Royal Windsor Racecourse.

Tonight we are also paying special thanks to an Arena Racing legend in Charlie Moore. Charlie has been a clerk for 36 years, along with performing many other roles within racing, most recently as ARC’s Group Head of Racing, before stepping down from full-time employment at the end of May and now acting as the Group’s Racing Consultant. Many of our ARC colleagues are here this evening in the Paddock Pavilion to honour Charlie’s contribution to the organization and we are delighted to be naming Race 3 as the ‘Arena Racing Company Thanks Charlie Moore Fillies Restricted Novice Stakes’. Quite a mouthful, but a fitting tribute to a great man.

On the track Oisin Murphy continues to dominate the Royal Windsor jockeys leaderboard with 18 wins and a seemingly impregnable lead of 12 wins over Tom Marquand and Rossa Ryan. The trainers leaderboard is a much tighter affair with Richard Hannon’s 7 wins one ahead of Richard Hughes and Tony Carroll.

Have a wonderful evening and good luck with the line-dancing!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating
