WELCOME

Today we return to our traditional programme of Monday evening dates with our best card of the season so far In particular, we welcome back our friends from Fitzdares for another summer of exciting sprint races over five and six furlongs, in which many familiar speedsters from seasons past will be competing again.

This popular series will take place during the next three months, with the grand final featuring horses that have qualified for a crack at the big prize by running in the heats If you are lucky enough to back the winner tonight, you may decide to follow your new friend all the way to the conclusion in August.

After another Monday evening card next week, we switch to Saturday on 25 May for our Summer Opening Party, with BBC Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay providing the music after racing We look forward to this marking the official launch of a memorable season of warm party evenings on the banks of the River Thames.

Bookings for all future meetings may be made on our website: www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk. From there you will discover a multitude of fun themes available during 2024 and choose packages that particularly suit you, from attractive meal deals to an exclusive table for the day in our top-quality panoramic 1866 Restaurant.

Most important of all, we hope that your selected horses run faster than all the others tonight and that you enjoy the enduring thrills of being at The Home of Monday Night Racing We aim to provide you with an experience to remember, but there’s nothing like a winner to send you home happy at the end of the evening!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): A Balding (31 wins from 165 runners, 19%) runs CUBAN MELODY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A Balding (11 wins from 60 runners, 18%) runs CUBAN MELODY LONGEST TRAVELLER: FEDERAL ENVOY trained by K R Burke, Leyburn, 243 miles.

MONO RIVER took an almighty step forward from his debut effort when finding a short-priced favourite too strong at Yarmouth earlier this month and with more to come, William Haggas’ charge can make it third time lucky. Cuban Melody has shaped with plenty of promise in both runs so far so she heads up the dangers, with Federal Envoy and Hector both worth keeping an eye on, too.
