LAST TIME OUT | Wednesday 16th February Our last meeting took place on Wednesday 16th February featuring seven races throughout the afternoon. The feature race of the day featured at 2:05, the Watch Racing TV On Sky 426 Handicap Hurdle, where eight runners went to post for the contest. It was predominantly a day for favourites and, failing that, short-priced runners to claim top honours. A solid 12 runners went to post for the first race of the day; a novices’ hurdle, headed by market leader Viva Lavilla. The 10/11 shot sought to give Dan and Harry Skelton a first win of the meeting, but was beaten in impressive style by the Rebecca Menzies-trained Rafferty’s Return and Sean Quinlan by five lengths. The seven-year-old led from the third flight and kept on strongly to beat the odds-on favourite, who displayed no extra up the run-in. The second race of the afternoon saw the first favourite of the day claim victory, in the form of seven-year-old Erne River for Nick Kent with Charlie Hammond in the saddle. This provided the gelding with his fourth consecutive win since March 2021 following a switch to chasing. The feature race of the day saw the well-fancied Up For Parol finish in third place behind the leading pair; Findthetime for Nicky Richards and No Word Of A Lie for Oliver Signy. Findthetime stayed on impressively to win by six and a half lengths in the hands of Brian Hughes, whereas No Word Of A Lie just held onto second by a neck from Up For Parol. The first three were an impressive 40 lengths in front of Her Indoors, who jumped inconsistently and was never in touch with the leading trio. 3/1 joint favourite Hasankey saw off a small,

yet competitive field in the fourth race of the meeting, claiming victory by a head from the Kerry Lee-trained Destined To Shine and Sam Twiston-Davies. This allowed trainer in-form Laura Morgan to extend her winning streak, despite being her only winner of the meeting. Joint favourite Rockadenn finished in fourth, three and a half lengths behind the leading trio and was unable to reach the leaders in the hands of Nick Schofield. The fifth race, a handicap chase, saw a field of 12 going to post headed by market leader Dhowin in the hands of Brian Highes. The eight-year-old failed to finish, with Hughes pulling him up before the fourth last, and the run was described as flat. Nonetheless, this proved exceptionally well for the Fergal O’Brien-trained Timeless Beauty, who stayed on by four and three-quarter lengths to win for the McNeill family with Adrian Heskin in the saddle once more. Interestingly, the mare was reported to have benefitted from the removal of cheek-pieces. The longest-priced winner of the day came in the form of five-year-old Trac at 16/1, with a 50/1 priced Kinerton Hill finishing a length and a half behind in second. The pair saw off popular runner Roger Rarebit and Stan Sheppard, who weakened increasingly during the final stages. The final race of the day once again saw a favourite claim top honours, and finally giving Stan Sheppard a win following a disappointing run in the penultimate race. Camembert Electric stayed on by a neck to snatch victory from the Dylan Johnston-trained Economic Editor, who kept on but was edged out by the winner who was in the hands of Tom Lacey.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are deﬁned below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. Official BHA Rating The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). Form Guide The figures in red display the horse’s previous form, with the number denoting finishing position. The number on the right shows the runners most recent result, with abbreviations used also. A layoff from racing is shown with either - or /. CD - Course and distance winner; BF - Beaten favourite; F - Fell; B - Brought down; P - Pulled up; R - Refused; S - Slipped up; U - Unseated rider; R - Ran out. The form guide is provided to help you pick which horse will carry your money in the race. Read the Timeform comment carefully and try to weigh up the horse’s previous runs against the conditions of the race. FORM ANALYSIS - A CLOSER LOOK

RACE ONE Mourne Lass was beaten an awfully long way at Fairyhouse on her hurdling debut, but she fared much better when second at Carlisle last time and could improve for this step up in trip, while Dillarchie was ﬁfth in that Carlisle race but is another who could be happier upped in distance. OUR BILL’S AUNT gets the vote as she went close at Southwell in January and showed that heavy ground holds no fears when again taking second at Lingﬁeld. She could be the answer in this.

RACE TWO BROOMFIELDS KAN was a good second over further at Ayr last time and while this drop in trip might pose a few different questions, he looks capable of landing the spoils on that form. Onenightintown comes into this on the backofafairsecondatCattericklasttimeandrunsoffthesamemarkhere,butperhapsabiggerdangerisStamina Chope, who hasn’t raced over fences since her French days but has dropped to what could be an attractive mark.

RACE THREE Cartonne emerged from the fog a clear second to an odds-on winner here two starts ago but was a shade disappointing at Doncaster last time, so RITSON is preferred. Rebecca Menzies’ gelding appeared to relish the return to the minimum trip when second on heavy ground at Carlisle last time and could be the one to side with in this. Netywell has a couple of useful hurdles runs to his name and is interesting.

RACE FOUR FONTANA ELLISSI went close to scoring at Taunton last month, when beaten half a length into second by a well-handicapped rival. Providing he handles conditions, the six-year-old can go one place better with the hat-trick seeking Jante Law looking best placed to chase him home despite having a 310-day absence to overcome. Playful Saint and Chti Balko are capable of getting involved as well.

RACE FIVE SEVEN NO TRUMPS may have disappointed when well fancied to land a handicap at Market Rasen in December, but the form of that race could not have worked out any better and it can pay to keep the faith in Dan Skelton’s charge. He can get the better of Buster Valentine, who remains 4lb below his last winning mark, while Indian Brave returns from a 738-day absence and won his last two starts in this sphere.

RACE SIX MOTOWN LAKE got off the mark in impressive fashion over 3m Uttoxeter last month and even a 7lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to stop this unexposed six-year-old. The Very Thing is an obvious threat to the selection having won well at Catterick last time, while The Lion Dancer and Aughnacurra King also merit places on the shortlist.

RACE SEVEN A case can be made for all of these but the vote goes to GREY DAWNING, based on his impressive debut victory over C&D late last year. Royal Mogul was only beaten a neck into second in a similar event here a month ago and that form gives him a big chance, while Langdale Lane edges out Saint Patric to be the pick of the remainder.

RACE DESCRIPTION The term ‘maiden’ inspires thoughts of damsels in distress but in horse racing terms it takes on a different meaning. When a horse is referred to as a maiden, be it a colt or a ﬁlly, it simply means that they have yet to win a race. Many of the runners aged four-years-old and upwards in this two miles and ﬁve furlongs race will still be inexperienced over hurdles and almost certainly improve for the racecourse experience that they gain today.
