SAUsAGE & CIDER SAUSAGE & CIDER Festival Raceday Festival Raceday ival RacEFestival RacGE Official Raceday Programme | £3.50
SAT 6 APRIL T

Welcome to our Sausage and Cider Festival Raceday and a particularly warm welcome to our sponsors today; Brian Mellor Financial Services, Excloosive Event Hire, Brian Cooke, Fitzdares and Weatherbys.

If you are reading this message, then it means we are delighted to be able to be racing today. Yet again we have been battling the weather conditions in the lead up to this fixture. The constant rainfall that we have seen over the last 6 months has had a real impact on our fixtures and making life difficult for our fantastic grounds team. Let’s all hope for some sunshine soon!

We have a great day’s entertainment lined up for you today as ever We have our 2nd running of the footlong sausage eating competition taking place on the decking outside of the office after the 3rd race If you think you have what it takes to lift the “Sausage Chomping Champion” trophy then head to the office before the first race for your chance to be selected to participate and win some great prizes.

The current Uttoxeter Darts Masters Champion, Kevin Painter, will be here taking on the public in the 9-dart challenge located in the Betting Hall with proceeds going to our charity partner Burton Albion Community Trust.

Don’t rush home after racing, as all customers are welcome to stay back and enjoy the Music from our favourite band here at the racecourse, ‘Radio Murphy’ They will be performing a one hour set in our Premier bar after the last race

Looking ahead we have got some great fixtures lined up in May. We start off with our Abba Party Raceday (featuring the Staffordshire Plate) on Saturday 4th May. Today actually marks the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision win with ‘Waterloo’

Next up is our popular Music Night with ‘Ocean Colour Scene’ playing their best hits live after racing on Saturday 18th May.

Our last fixture in May is our Dino Family Fun raceday (featuring the Clarke Chase) where you can expect to see a host of dinosaurs roaming around, which I’m sure will be a memorable day for our little racing fans.

Thank you for supporting us at Uttoxeter Racecourse and I hope you all have a great day.

Good Luck,

WELCOME

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY

ORBYS RIVER has displayed more promise for the switch to handicaps, finishing a creditable second at Huntingdon on her penultimate start, and she looked set to play a part in the finish before unseating 2 out at Hereford 10 days ago. She could be worth chancing from such a lowly mark, with recent Chepstow second Hawk Stone rating a big danger particularly if sharpening up his jumping. Yellow Jacket, who arrives on the back of good efforts over fences, is another to consider

Race preview from Weatherbys

Itisarealpleasuretobesponsoringthe Weatherbysnhstallions.co.ukNovices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter this afternoon, a race won last year by AnthonyHoneyball’sBlackjackMagic. Last year’s winning trainer sends Glynn in search of consecutive victories in the contest, and the ten-year-old is set to make his chase debut. Formerly with Nicky Henderson, the one-time winning hurdler made his stable debut forhisnewyardafteroverayearoffthe trackwhenthirdatNewburylastmonth and will no doubt come on for the run switchedtofenceshere.

Fine Casting should appreciate this step up in trip.

Jupiter Du Gite got off the mark over fences at the second time of asking when making all to an impressive four-length success over course and distance last time. The handicapper has taken no chances, up 7lbs for that victory, but the progressive five-year-old is still unexposed over fences and still has plenty of scope for improvement. He can prove rather headstrong though and is unlikely to get it all his own way on the front end with plenty of pace projected here.

Alex Hales’ Happy And Fine must shoulder top weight, but has made a successful start to life over fences this term. Third in a strong contest at Wetherby on chase debut, the sevenyear-old won his next two starts and the form of his Haydock victory has workedoutwell.Hewaspulled-upina deepnovices’handicapatCheltenham onTrialsDaybutlookedtobetravelling wellwhenafalleratChepstowlasttime andisabigplayerifbacktoform.

Carbon King must also bounce back from a fall last time, although he was weakening away and has completed just one of his last five starts. He did keep on well to get the better of the reopposing FineCasting at Ffos Las in December though and is weighted to confirm that form. Fine Casting’s run ofconsistentperformanceswashalted when pulled up at Exeter last time, but Ben Pauling’s eight-year-old should appreciatethisstepupintrip.

RACE SUMMARY

French-recruit JACKS PARROT made a decent start for this yard back from 3 months off when fourth at Carlisle and is potentially on a handy mark if building on that. Rouge de L’Quest responded well to a tongue strap when a comfortable winner at Ffos Las on Sunday so is feared most under a penalty.
