OFFICI A L BH A R ATINGS E X PL AINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The Racing League Joker Card

A new innovation introduced in Racing League 2022 allows each of the managers of the seven competing teams having the opportunity to play a Joker in any two of the 42 races when there are at least 12 horses running.
The Joker doubles the points won by the two horses representing the team in a given race. When played, the team receives double points in that given race but it is not applied to individual jockey points.

The team manager will announce their intention to play a Joker in the Paddock, directly before the selected race This is done by placing a Joker card alongside the team name on the scoreboard in the Paddock.

CRIMSON SPIRIT showed improved form in line with the step up in trip when opening his account in a 7-runner Epsom maiden (7f) 16 days ago and with the likelihood of more to come now handicapping, he can make another bold bid. Faster Bee caught the eye on nursery debut at Newbury and is feared, with Up The Jazz and Commander Crouch others fancied to be thereabouts.

Overcoming a pace bias when successful on return/yard debut over C&D in the spring, KINGMANIA has largely been in better order than recent form figures suggest and, appealing as still being on a workable mark returned to all weather, it would come as no surprise to see a bold showing from James Ferguson’s mare Dionysian and Tosen Wish both arrive on the back of good efforts and are feared, with Hat Toss and Billy Mill others fancied to be in the mix.

BLAZEON FIVE took her form to another level when edging out a subsequent winner at Ascot, pulling well clear of the rest, and she can defy a 3lb rise at a track she’s proven at. Racing League’s official racing charity partner
Racing to School has supported the learning and development of young people for over 20 years. The charity provides unique, free educational programmes for schools, colleges and riding groups at racecourses, trainers’ yards and studs across Great Britain.

Racing to School’s programmes aim to enhance young people’s learning and to inspire beneficiaries to consider being the next generation of racegoers and even joining its varied workforce. Last year, the charity reached a record 16,000 young people, through more than 400 education days. Young people with special educational needs are supported and over a third of activities target those from inner city, rural and deprived areas.
Visit racingtoschool.co.uk to find out more about racing’s smallest but most ambitious charity and how you can support our work with young people
Visit us today at the Racing to School stand, where you can talk to our friendly team about life in racing and have a go on the equicisers and virtual reality headsets to see if you have what it takes to be a jockey!

RACE SUMMARY
A fiercely competitive concluding contest to Racing League 2023 and the one who makes most appeal is VALSAD, who went down only narrowly to a progressive 3-y-o at Newbury last month and provided he takes to the surface (makes all-weather debut), Harry & Roger Charlton’s charge can double his tally Regal Empire won twice at this track earlier in the year and arriving on the back of Shergar Cup success, he rates the main danger Onesmoothoperator and Scampi round off the shortlist.
