OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

It’s fantastic to have racing back and we’re delighted you’re joining us. Whether you’re a Sedgefield regular or visiting for the first time, we hope you enjoy a brilliant evening of racing, fashion and entertainment. There’s plenty happening on and off the track. A huge thank you to all of today’s sponsors for their generous support. Our first race is at 16:25, getting another exciting season underway. Coming up, we have the feature racedays, the Durham National on Sunday 18th October and our new Christmas Jumper fixture on 22nd December. Restaurant spaces are already filling fast, so book early if you’d like to join us! We have a special celebration today too, everyone at Sedgefield would like to wish Lucie and Alex a very happy 18th Birthday. We hope you have a fantastic evening celebrating with us! Today, we also remember Graham Newton, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. We’re proud to welcome the Rockets Women’s Rugby Team, who are sponsoring our second race in his memory. Our thoughts are with Graham’s family, friends and everyone who knew him. You can read more in today’s racecard. INFORMATION Abandonment
In the event of a race meeting being abandoned before the first race, a full refund will be made. If the meeting is abandoned after the first race but before the third, a 50% refund will be made in the same manner as a full refund. If the meeting is abandoned after the third race, no refund will be made. Customers must retain their badges, which are date stamped and numbered, in order to obtain a refund, and present or send them to the Racecourse Office from two days after the meeting.
Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption needs to be reported to the Safety Officer, DO NOT confront the individual/s, and the FRG (Fast Response Group/ Security) will deal with the situation. We do reserve the right, in extreme circumstances, either to refuse admission or to eject a person from the racecourse.
Communications/Mobile Phones
Mobile telephones, laptops, tablets and any other electronic devices may not be used on the racecourse for betting purposes. Cellular phones may be used for other purposes but only away from designated betting areas. FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN YOUR REMOVAL FROM THE PREMISES AS PER OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY.
Admission - Conditions Of Entry
Entry to the racecourse is subject to the right of the racecourse executive to refuse to admit and/ or to expel, without prior notice, any person whose behaviour is considered to be unruly or unacceptable or is a disqualified person. • Bringing food and drink into the enclosures other than that purchased at the racecourse is prohibited. • Racegoers must at all times comply with any conditions, rules and regulations in operation, including the observance of no drinking areas for safety reasons. • There is no formal dress code. • Lost and stolen badges will not be replaced. • Transfers to enclosures may be possible on the day, subject to availability.
Public Safety
In the interests of public safety all visitors to the racecourse must follow the directions of the Safety Stewards on the Stands and the Raceday Staff throughout the racecourse. Please do not leave bags or your possessions unattended at any time as this could cause a security alert. Please be aware that horses can be unpredictable, therefore care and attention is necessary within the vicinity of the horses. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL DRINK AND/OR GLASSES BE ALLOWED ON TO GRANDSTANDS, OR VIEWING AREAS IN FRONT OF THE GRANDSTANDS OR AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE PARADE RING. RACEGOERS DISREGARDING THIS REGULATION OR BEHAVING IN A DISORDERLY MANNER WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE RACECOURSE.
Public Evacuation Procedure
In the unlikely event that the racecourse has to abandon racing and evacuate buildings please read the following information for your safety. Racecourse management will only take such action if an emergency situation such as a fire or possible bomb threat and at all times decisions will be taken placing public safety as a priority. In the event that an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the public address system: THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT. IT IS NECESSARY FOR ALL PERSONS TO LEAVE THE RACECOURSE. WOULD YOU PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS GIVEN BY STAFF AND MOVE TO THE ASSEMBLY LOCATIONS. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RETURN TO YOUR VEHICLES AS ROADS MUST BE KEPT CLEAR FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES. YOUR CO-OPERATION IS REQUIRED TO ENABLE RACING TO RESUME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Unless otherwise instructed, all customers and staff will be evacuated to the assembly points shown on the diagram, and not allowed to access car parks or move vehicles. This is for public safety and to allow emergency services such as the fire brigade to attend as quickly as possible along clear roads.

WELCOME STOCKTON ROCKET’S
This afternoon we welcome Stockton Rocket’s Women’s rugby team to Sedgefield Racecourse. The Rockets were unbeaten during the 2025-26 season achieving promotion, success which saw six of the squad gain representative honours with Durham County culminating in playing at Twickenham in the Gill Burns County Championship Final.
The relationship with Stockton Rugby Club has developed during recent years as we continue to strengthen links with local sports teams and seek to celebrate women in sport. A driving force for Women & Girls rugby not only at Stockton but around the county was Graham Newton, Chair of Stockton Rugby Club until his tragic and unexpected passing a few weeks ago. Newt, as he
was affectionately known, had a huge passion and drive for W&G rugby and was the founder of Stockton Rockets. His mantra was ‘build it and they will come’ and that has proved to be true as he built the foundations that has yielded the current success. His memory is remembered in our 2nd race today, “Newt’s Rocket To The Top”!
