Royal Windsor Racecard - Saturday 24th May

Page 1

WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for our first Saturday meeting of the season and our official Summer Opening Party! I think it’s fair to say summer seems to have arrived early this year as we have been blessed with glorious sunshine for virtually all our Windsor fixtures so far, so fingers crossed I’m not jinxing our good fortune to date.

On Monday we held the‘Flavours of India’racenight which served up a treat for Oisin Murphy who rode the winner in each of the first four races, followed up by a 3rd and 2nd place in the following two races. This brings his Windsor tally of winners to 8 so far this season, already opening up a healthy lead over Tom Marquand who has 4 winners and Marco Ghiani with 3.

Looking to today’s racing, we are extremely grateful to Sri Lanka for their sponsorship of today’s entire racecard. They have been a great supporter of Royal Windsor Racecourse in recent years, and indeed other racecourses within the ARC Group, so we are indebted to the connections of beautiful Sri Lanka for their on-going support and wish them all a wonderful day out at Windsor today.

Following today’s racing, our Summer Opening Party kicks off with music on the Paddock Lawn featuring Marvin Humes as DJ for the evening Marvin has gained prominence as a radio host and TV presenter as well as being a DJ, and many will remember him as a contestant on ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’in 2023. The Paddock Lawn should be rocking this evening!

The racing here at Royal Windsor continues over the Bank Holiday weekend as on Monday we are hosting our second Family Fun Day this month. There will be a whole raft of entertainment for families and their kids including Funfair rides, obstacle courses, bouncy castles, face painters, glitter tattoists, Mini Land Rovers, birds of prey, Rock Choir, penalty shoot-outs and a Shetland Pony Race ahead of the first race, which is a wonderful spectacle not to be missed If you are still undecided on how to spend your Bank Holiday Monday, then do look to bring the family down for a fun-filled day.

Wishing you all a great day out at Royal Windsor Racecourse

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

The vote goes to AL WASEELA, who made it three wins from her last five starts when accounting for 11 rivals at Nottingham last time and this 3lb higher mark is unlikely to be a barrier to further gains Fellow last-time-out scorer Live Each Day could be the one to follow her home, while Blue Train will also be a threat if able to reproduce the form of his C&D near-miss and Barry’s Boy needs a second look, too.

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk
