Royal Windsor Racecard - Monday 2nd June

Page 1

WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for another exciting evening of Monday Night Racing. Hard to believe we’re already in June and have completed six meetings of the Flat season. Last weekend was a busy one with the Summer Opening Party, for our first post-racing music night of the year, followed by the Family Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday, which combined together attracted an attendance of 11,000 people through the gates.

On a personal level, it was great to experience my first music night on the other side of the stage, and it was fantastic to see so many people having a wonderful time as Marvin Humes treated everyone to the full repertoire of his DJ skills on the Paddock Lawn. Live music is very much on the agenda post-racing for the month ahead with particular highlights being the Biblecode Sundays performing on Irish Night on June 9th, and the Edwin Starr Band showcasing their talents at Soul & Motown Racenight on June 30th. As for this evening, there will be a DJ from the Ultimate Central Party Band performing in the Paddock Lawn Marquee shortly after the final race

However, my main message this evening is to say that I am truly thrilled to announce that we are launching the first ever Royal Windsor Racing Syndicate racehorse in conjunction with Old Gold Racing The 2 year old colt, named ‘The Wicked Wolf’, was bought at the Goffs Breeze-up last month, special Royal Windsor silks have been designed and the horse will be trained at Jamie Osborne’s yard in Lambourn. Next Monday on June 9th there will be a launch event in the Riverbank Marquee ahead of the racing where you can hear more about the horse directly from Jamie, and his daughter Saffie, who is likely to be the jockey. For only £60, you could become one of the owners of this exciting young prospect – for more details please visit https://oldgoldracing.com/horses/the-wicked-wolf

Our theme tonight is Summertime BBQ – we have largely been very blessed with sunny weather so far this season, long may it continue (we don’t mind overnight rain to water the track!), so the BBQ on the Paddock Lawn will be in full operation this evening

I hope you have a very enjoyable and fruitful evening at the Home of Monday Night Racing!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk
