WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for another warm and no doubt fantastic evening ahead of Monday Night Racing I think all the team here welcomed having no racing here last Monday after 10 successive Mondays, but equally we are all now really excited to be back in action again for Rum & Reggae Racenight!

Rum & Reggae is always a popular theme in the Windsor calendar and this year we have a full array of entertainment throughout the evening including a steel band, carnival dancers, a DJ on the Lavender Lawn, roaming drummer and even a fire-breather! The evening will conclude with the band ‘Rats in the Kitchen’ performing on the main stage in the Paddock Lawn once the racing has finished

On the subject of the racing, I highlighted in the last racecard that Lequinto had the opportunity to complete a Windsor hat-trick in the final race of our meeting, and it was wonderful to see the 8 year old flying round the outside and getting cheered home to victory for the 3rd time here in the space of a week A truly remarkable feat for the Tony Carroll trained gelding and a fantastic achievement for jockey Matthew Lloyd Slater, on-board for each win, which were his first ever wins as an apprentice jockey

Special thanks today to our Race Sponsors, namely our main sponsor, Fitzdares, who are sponsoring 3 races including the Fitzdares Sprint Series in Race 4. We are also delighted to welcome the Barbados Tourist Board, who are sponsoring two races along with Rumshack, our resident rum & cocktail outlet, who are sponsoring the 5th Race, so a big thank you to Cedric and Marc respectively for your support.

If anyone wants to add a unique angle to their raceday, race sponsorship is a wonderful way to get your guests or clients up close and personal with the action. You have the opportunity to visit the Parade Ring before the race to choose the Best Turned Out horse, and then present the trophy to the winning owner on the podium in the Winners Enclosure. It is more affordable than you might think so please do contact either myself or Gemma Pateman if you want to explore this opportunity.

Have a wonderful evening, there are two water stations this evening located in front of the Grandstand and on the Paddock Lawn offering free water so do please keep hydrated

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk.

All owners can enjoy 20 syndicate badges at all fixtures, on all ARC tracks*

All ARC Tracks operate dedicated and exclusive syndicate lounge facilities on racedays.
