WELCOME

MAY 11th 2026

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for our Community Racenight and the first evening fixture of our summer Flat season programme It was great to be up and running again last Monday for our Bank Holiday Family Fun Day with a crowd of 5,000 who were well-entertained with some fantastic racing on the track and a wide array of activities off the track.

After hosting a quieter re-arranged fixture from Brighton Racecourse last Thursday, normal service resumes today as we look forward to welcoming crowds in from the local borough and beyond for our Community Racenight. As I mentioned in last week’s racecard, a great deal of work has been going on behind the scenes since the Jumps season finished here in January, and we are particularly pleased with the way the winners enclosure now looks, which we feel is a significant improvement on the last one

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team who have done such sterling work over recent months Charlie Rees as Clerk of the Course, Chris Kelly as Head Groundsman and his talented team have done a truly outstanding job with the presentation of the track and the racecourse surrounds. Mark Donovan joined us as Operations Manager in November, and it is like he has been with us for years in getting to grips with the role and Gemma Pateman, our Business Manager, is making great headway with our commercial programme, superbly supported by Kirsty Smith and Jordan Ramroop across both our racing and non-racing activities Last but by no means least, I am really excited by our Catering team, Lee Brassil joined us as Catering Ops Manager in February and has brought energy and fresh ideas to the table, leading a really strong team of Kai John-Charles as Retail Manager, Dom Cardell as Staffing Manager and Sarat Kunwar as Executive Chef and Florin Pectu as Sous-Chef My thanks to you all, it will be a relentless few months ahead but hopefully an enjoyable one and I have every faith in my team to deliver a wonderful customer experience for all who come to a Windsor racenight this summer.

We are equally delighted to welcome back Fitzdares today as our principal partner at Royal Windsor Racecourse, who continue to be such great supporters of the racecourse. Wishing you a very enjoyable and fruitful evening at the races!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk
