WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE
Welcome back to Hereford Racecourse for our Season Opener and thank you to Betting.Bet for their support today. It barely feels like we closed the gates in May and are back again! But we have lots to look forward to over the 2026/2027 season, including our Halloween Half Term Family Raceday in two weeks’ time on Monday 26th October, with all under 18’s going free of charge and entertainment included it’s a fantastic value day out. Our ever-popular Christmas Jumper Raceday returns on Saturday 19th December, then a new fixture for the Hereford calendar is Festive Family Day on Sunday 27th December, a perfect way to get some post-Christmas fresh air! Our fixture list is displayed in your racecard so be sure to get these dates in your diary. Throughout the season we have our Day at the Races packages (admission, drink & racecard) available which offer great value, but these do sell out fast so would encourage you to get booked in via the website for your desired fixture. As well as our Snaffles restaurant opening on feature days, we also offer Premier Viewing in this facility for all fixtures in between, which makes the perfect base for the day, again all available via the website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk. With attention turning back to today’s action, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff the best of luck with their runners at Hereford and beyond as we see the jumps season getting back into full swing. Also a huge thank you to our team of groundstaff who have worked tirelessly to prepare the ground for today after an incredibly dry summer. As well as racing, we also welcome St Michael’s Hospice back here for their Fireworks display on Saturday 7th November, details are include in your racecard and tickets can be purchased in advance through their website, it promises to be a dazzling evening of entertainment for all the family! We hope you have a great day with us and see you again throughout the season. Best wishes,
Camilla Esling, General Manager

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
ABANDONMENT POLICY
In the event of racing being abandoned, the following rules apply:
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.
• Abandonment before completion of the 1st race – badge valid for the next race meeting or full refund • Abandonment prior to completion of the 3rd race – 50% refund • Abandonment thereafter – no refund No refunds will be made on the day of racing. All refunds should be claimed in writing within 14 days of the abandoned meeting. Please enclose your badge/s as proof of admission and send them to: Racecourse Office, Hereford Racecourse, Roman Road, Hereford HR4 9QU. Please PRINT your name clearly and send with the returned badges.
ADMISSION BADGES
Racegoers are politely requested to ensure their badges are worn and to be clearly visible at all times. If you have purchased an E-ticket, please ensure you have this with you at all times.
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk.

Amateur photographers are only permitted to take photographs in the areas normally open to the public and should not encroach upon areas specifically designated for or used by professional photographers. Professional filming and photography takes place here at Hereford Racecourse for various publications and broadcasting, and racegoers (including families) consent to being filmed, photographed and otherwise recorded by Hereford Racecourse or any third party authorised by Hereford Racecourse.

SAFETY
FEEDBACK

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
hope.
Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

This looks open so it may be worth chancing LADY DAPPLE ROSE, who was left poorly placed on her Uttoxeter return 4 weeks ago and Ben Pauling’s 5-y-o should benefit from this step back up in trip. Barafundle Bay shaped much better than previously when fourth at Warwick recently, so she may emerge as the main threat if able to build on that here. Last-time-out winner Miracles Do Happen completes the shortlist.
