Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for an afternoon of jump racing, with support from our sponsors.
We must pay thanks to our Clerk of the Course and the grounds team for all their efforts in watering the course over the last few weeks to maintain the going in this drying weather. It does mean we are lucky to enjoy racing in the sunshine and take in the glorious views of racing against the backdrop of the city and across to the Welsh mountains.
As we near the end of our season we have plenty still to look forward to, including two evening fixtures which are new to the Hereford calendar The first of which will be on Tuesday 22nd April, where we have a fantastic Complete Day At The Races package available including admission, racecard, drink and gourmet burger, all for £26!
Then to finish the season we have our Ladies Evening on Friday 9th May including an ABBA tribute band after racing on the lawns for all to enjoy. As well as racing and music, we have the Style Awards, where the Best Dressed Lady will win a cash prize of £500! And there are prizes to the runner up and Best Dressed Couple too.
Why not indulge in our Fizzy Day at the Races package, with admission, mini bottle of prosecco and racecard all for £27, a great way to start your evening at the races. Plus, we have launched a new hospitality package where you can enjoy an afternoon tea and bottomless prosecco from the comfort of the Parade Ring Marquee! Please visit the website to book your places
We hope you enjoy your day with us today and thank you for your continued support here at Hereford Racecourse, we look forward to seeing you next on Tuesday 22nd April.
Best wishes
Camilla Esling, General Manager

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

MISTRAL BLUE turned in her best effort of the season from an easing mark when fourth over C&D just over a fortnight ago and a reproduction of that form may well suffice. My Virtue was value for extra when landing a Southwell handicap in May and has to be respected in her follow-up bid given she’s clearly capable fresh. Jackie Can may prove best of the rest
