Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for an evening of racing to close our season until October.

As our season concludes this evening, we would like to extend our thanks to all those that have supported the racecourse this season, including today’s race sponsors, Planet Sport Bet. Also to NAF Racing for their kind sponsorship of our Best Turned Out Horse Award League which will see the winners crowned this evening for both the overall yard winner and individual, who will receive a £100 cash prize. The current league standings can be found on page 15 of your racecard.

We wouldn’t be able to enjoy the sport put on here at the racecourse without our grounds team who work tirelessly to ensure the ground is at its’best despite all that the Great British weather can throw at us, which it has managed to do in our time between October and May, so a huge thank you to them. Then final thanks to our Owners, Trainers, Jockeys & Stable Staff, to our permanent team and raceday staff, and to you, the wonderful racing fans.

With plenty to look forward to in the Autumn, including our Christmas Jumper Raceday on Saturday 21st December, you can find all our fixtures for your diary on page 18 of today’s racecard.

We hope you enjoy your evening with us today and look forward to welcoming you back in October.

Best wishes,

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

Selected to win the race

Good chance of being placed By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

Can be given little or no chance.

TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horsesoncethey have taken partinasufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithanequal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb more than ahorse rated99(ignoring anypenalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeplechasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chaserating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.
