FRIDAY 23 MAY

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

WELCOME TO THE MAY FESTIVAL

Welcome to Day One of the 2025 May Festival. We are delighted to host a plethora of high-class races across this two-day event, set within the scenic views of the South Downs.

Today’s racecard features seven thrilling contests, spanning distances from five furlongs to two miles. We begin with the £15,000 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes, a race for promising two-year-olds, followed by five competitive handicaps throughout the afternoon. Amongst them is the standout £50,000 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap Stakes at 3:15pm.

Our racing highlight comes at 3:50pm with the prestigious £60,000 BetGoodwin Festival Stakes, a Listed race run over one mile and two furlongs.

We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners - especially BetGoodwin and the British European Breeders’ Fund - for their generous support of today’s racing.

Join us for Day Two of the May Festival tomorrow, packed with more exhilarating action. Furthermore, Three Friday Nights returns in June – where racing meets music for an unforgettable summer series.

We do hope you enjoy Day One of the May Festival, and on behalf of everyone at Goodwood, thank you for joining us.

THE COURSE

course characteristics

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
