Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, May I extend a warm welcome to you all to Ffos Las Racecourse on our first £1 race night.
Firstly can I say a big thank you to South West Rail Solutions who have sponsored today, their support of Ffos Las Racecourse is genuinely appreciated by all the team.
Looking back to Sunday April 12th, it was a very successful day on and off the track with hundreds of families enjoying the K Pop Superstars live on stage, free Go Karts, Free Face painting, a funfair for all ages for only £1 a ride and much, much more.
On the track we had a double celebration, firstly Champion Jockey Sean Bowen achieved an amazing milestone by achieving 100 winners at Ffos Las Racecourse
Then Ben Jones also achieved 100 winners for the season at our track, both these jockeys are taking the UK racing scene by storm, and we were very proud that they could achieve this at their local track.
Again we are delighted with the number of entries for tonight’s racing, with 74 horses confirmed (at the time of writing) creating a race division taking us up to 7 races for the evening. This a true testament to all the hard work that our Clerk of the Course Tracey O’Meara, Head Groundsman Martyn David and their grounds team put in week in and week out to get our track up to the highest standard.
Hope you enjoy tonight, and please come back to join us on the final two jumps race days on the 5th May and 20th May
We hope you have a very enjoyable day and thanks for supporting your local racecourse.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hire General Manager Ffos Las Racecourse

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
