Evacuation
If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.
As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;
• Take your belongings with you.
• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
Broken glasses and bottles are dangerous. In the interests of safety and the comfort of others please do not carry drinks or food on to the steppings of the stand, or the areas adjacent to the parade ring or unsaddling enclosure. Good afternoon to you all, and welcome to Ffos Las Racecourse on our second Flat racing fixture of the season , and the first of a double header which is also our ABBA race day.
The above request may seem a little strange, however all will make more sense as you read on. On the 16th of July we hold our Cider and Sausage race night at Ffos Las Racecourse , during which we are looking for entrants to take part in the “Unofficial Welsh Sausage eating competition” , the winner on the night will then go forward to represent Ffos Las in the “Unofficial British Sausage eating championship ” held at Bath Racecourse in September All you have to do is eat a foot long sausage in a roll in the fastest time and you could pick up the famous Golden Sausage trophy! (honestly, this is not a wind up!) it’s going to be a fun night, and we have the Hat and Fiddle band performing live after racing in Blinkers Bar, it will be a night to remember So please if you want to take part in this and receive free entry for you and a friend on the night , please contact me directly on khire@ffoslas-racecourse.co.uk
Anyway, back to the racing , and what a start we had to our Flat season, as our racegoers enjoyed a brilliant competitive day’s racing last Sunday A special mention must be made for local trainer Bernard Llewellyn and regular at Ffos Las , who completed a 1-2-3 on the race day podium last week, it was the second time he has achieved this in the last two years, so congratulations to Bernard and the team in the Rhymney Valley on this achievement.
Good luck to all the Owners and Trainers today , and I hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful racecourse which is nestled in the heart of the Gwendraeth Valley in Carmarthenshire
Regarding todays Entertainment , I’m sure you will enjoy our host “Heidi Heights” who will be on stage before racing, and then Bjorn Belief after racing in Blinkers Bar , they are known as one of the best ABBA tributes in the UK and I’m sure we are in for a treat Please remember that throughout today both Blinkers and McCoys bars are open so please make sure you use both bars as we can try to get you served with your drinks as quickly as possible
Looking forward to August, don’t forget we have our Summer Ladies Day on Friday 22nd August with a confirmed line up after racing of the Brilliant DMF, followed by a DJ set by Matthew Horne (Gavin in Gavin and Stacey) who knows you may also bump into a certain Nessa Jenkins working in security when you come in!
Tickets are already selling well for all these events, and you can book yours by going on ffoslas-racecourse.co.uk
We look forward to seeing you all over the summer to enjoy some great flat racing and top entertainment.
Yours in racing

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
