Horse & Jockey Welfare at Ffos Las
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a highspecification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital. It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.ffoslasracecourse.com.
Admission Policy
• Entry to the racecourse is subject to the right of the racecourse executive to refuse to admit and/or to expel, without prior notice, any person whose behaviour is considered to be unruly or unacceptable or is a disqualified person. • Bringing alcohol into the enclosures other than that purchased at the racecourse is prohibited. Barbecues are not permitted. • No Dogs allowed (except Registered Assistance Dogs) • Racegoers must at all times comply with any conditions, rules and regulations in operation, including the observance of no drinking areas for safety reasons. • Lost and stolen badges will not be replaced.
Evacuation Procedures
If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance. Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember; • Take your belongings with you. • Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
Photography
Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without the permission of the racecourse executive. Flash photography is essentially dangerous where horses are involved. You are asked not to use flash photography anywhere in the parade ring area and particularly near the Winners Enclosure.
Radios & Mobile Phones
The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc. for any purpose at the racecourse. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for off-course betting purposes. Further details are available from the racecourse office.
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted
Race preview from Weatherbys It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the Weatherbys nhstallions. co.uk Nursery Handicap at Ffos Las this afternoon, a Class 5 event staged over six furlongs with a competitive field of six set to line up. The top-weighted Harry’s Pop sets a good standard here, Dylan Cunha’s twoyear-old chasing the hattrick following back-to-back nursery handicap successes at Catterick and Bath. He won with plenty in hand from a mark of 65 at Catterick, surging clear to win by a comfortable two lengths, before backing that up by showing a good attitude to score under a penalty at Bath last time. This will require more up to a mark of 75, but the son of Harry Angel is progressive and can go on improving with Jack Mitchell up in the saddle. He is also the only previous winner in this field. Although disappointing on handicap debut at Carlisle last time when looking a rather difficult ride, Fast Performer must merit plenty of respect for the formidable duo of Tom Marquand and William Haggas. The trainer reaches for firsttime cheekpieces to help sharpen him up, and a return to the form of his debut second – when splitting rivals rated 78 and 82 – would give him strong claims
here. Costing £58,000 as a yearling, the Showcasing colt is capable of more. Oisin Murphy is an eye-catching jockey booking aboard Michael Bell’s filly Resemblance, who arrives here on the back of a break after meeting plenty of trouble as a beaten favourite in a Chepstow maiden back in June. The daughter of Bayside Boy was previously runner-up in a strong Haydock maiden and can get back on track on handicap debut. Both Chief Minister and Beechwood Glory also make their handicap debuts here. The former, trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, ran well when eighth in the valuable Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes at Newmarket last time and is interesting switched to nurseries from a handy mark. Beechwood Glory has finished in the top three on all of his last three starts for John Butler and finds himself at the bottom of the weights, with Conor Whiteley taking off a further 5lbs. Toby Moore will be taking 7lbs off Amo Racing and David Loughnane’s Maximus Meridius, who caught the eye when third at Chepstow last time, keeping on well over five furlongs late in the race. The Persian Force gelding should appreciate a return to this longer trip. WEATHERBYS RACE PREVIEW
