A REYT GOOD DAY OUT. SINCE 1776.

OFFICIAL RACEDAY PROGRAMME £4.00

THURS 10 SEPT 2026

Hello and a very warm welcome to Doncaster Racecourse as we kick off the Betfred St Leger Festival 2026 with our fabulous Ladies Day! We’re delighted to have you join us for a fantastic day of top-class racing, fashion and entertainment. This year’s festival is set to be bigger and better than ever, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Betfred St Leger Stakes on Saturday, the world’s oldest classic. A huge thank you to our festival sponsor, Betfred, as well as today’s race sponsors: EBF, Weatherbys, Pertemps, Meadowhall, Flannels, East Midlands Airport and Jet2. There are eight exciting races on today’s card, including the Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, Betfred May Hill Stakes and Betfred Park Hill Stakes, showcasing some of the very best racing talent to kick off the festival. Of course, no Ladies Day would be complete without our popular Style Awards. Everyone has the opportunity to enter for the chance to win a fantastic prize package worth over £2,500, including a £1,000 Meadowhall gift voucher. To enter, simply head to one of the Photo Box entry points in either Grandstand or County before 2:45pm to have your photograph taken. Finalists will be contacted after 3:10pm, before the final judging takes place in the Parade Ring and the winner is announced at 3:45pm. Joining us for the final judging with the face of our Style Guide, Daisy Tomlinson, and Mark Wright. There’s even more entertainment taking place throughout the day, with a roaming brass band adding to the atmosphere, and Benidorm star Crissy Rock meeting and mingling with racegoers. The County Enclosure is the place to be to soak up the electric atmosphere, with our returning Party Enclosure and Stable Yard Party Barn bringing the celebrations to life. You can grab a drink from the Red Lion Tavern, inspired by the pub where the St Leger Stakes was officially named, or tuck into something tasty from our street food stalls. Stay fabulous all day long with the Meadowhall X Flannels Beauty Bar, offering hair and beauty touch-ups throughout the raceday. Once racing has finished, the party continues on the Champagne Lawn, where TV personality Mark Wright will keep the party going with a high energy DJ set.

Don’t forget to take advantage of our exclusive drinks offer. Guests can enjoy 50% off all draught drinks, as well as £10 off bottles of House Wine, Prosecco, Champagne and Pimms Jugs during the first 60 minutes after gates open. Terms and conditions apply, and we ask all guests to enjoy responsibly. There’s plenty more to come as we continue through this historic festival. Tomorrow is Betfred Gents Day, featuring the oldest race run under the rules of horse racing, the Doncaster Cup, alongside the Leger Legends race which is Britain’s only charity race for retired jockeys. Saturday sees the highlight of the week, Betfred St Leger Day, which features the 250th anniversary running of the Betfred St Leger Stakes; the world’s oldest Classic and an iconic race that has been woven into the fabric of the city’s history for generations. We’ll then bring the festival to a close with Sunday Funday, a brilliant family day out packed with free entertainment and activities, including special appearances from Chase & Skye from PAW Patrol. Tickets for all our upcoming racedays and events are available now at doncaster-racecourse.co.uk. Thank you for joining us for Betfred St Leger Ladies Day 2026. Our team is committed to making sure you have a fantastic day, and we really appreciate your feedback and support.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk.

For the Premier and County Enclosure you will require both badge and turnstile ticket to enter the course. Your badge is to be worn on your person, clearly visible throughout the duration of your stay, the badge alone will not permit you entry to the course, you will require the turnstile ticket to gain entry through the turnstile gate.

It is essential and a requirement that you follow their instructions. If you are able please take your belongings with you and proceed as directed out of the area as quickly and quietly as possible. These are just precautionary notes and we trust the procedures will not be required. However, please remember in the event of a partial or total evacuation of your area to: IF ABLE TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU AND PROCEED AS DIRECTED QUICKLY AND QUIETLY OUT OF THE AREA.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted 6

A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO RACING Allowance The weight concession the horse is given to compensate for its rider’s inexperience.

order and distances between horses.

Maiden Horse which has not yet won a race. Handicap A race where each horse is allotted

a different weight to carry, according to the official handicap ratings determined by the BHA Handicappers. The theory is that all horses run on a fair and equal basis - the ‘perfect’ handicap being one where all the runners finish in a dead-heat.

Mare Female horse aged five years old or above. Bit Metal part of the bridle that sits in a horse’s Middle Distances On the Flat, races beyond a mile

mouth. The reins are then attached to the bit and used by the jockey to control the horse.

Blinkers A form of headgear worn by the horse, consisting of a hood with cups around the eyes. They are used to limit a horse’s vision and reduce distractions, with the aim of making it concentrate. Cheekpieces Strips of sheepskin that are attached to the side of a horse’s bridle. They partially obscure a horse’s rear vision, with the aim of getting the horse to concentrate on racing. Clerk of the Course Racecourse official responsible for the overall racecourse management, including the preparation of the racing surface. Clerk of the Scales Racecourse official

whose chief duty is to weigh the riders before and after a race to ensure proper weight is carried.

Colours Jacket (‘silks’) worn by jockey to

Penalty Weight added to the handicap weight of a horse which has won since the weights were published.

Photo Finish Electronic photo device which determines minimal distance in a close finish. Racecard The runners and riders of the day within this raceday programme.

Rating A measure of the ability of a horse on a scale

starting at zero and going into three figures. Flat and Jump racing use different scales; the highest-rated Flat horse is usually in the 130s and the top-rated jumper in the 180s.

Schooled Trained to jump. Sire Father of a horse. Sprint races Flat races run over a distance of five or six furlongs.

Distance The length of a race. Dam Mother of a horse. Draw A horse’s starting position in the stalls allotted in races on the Flat. Stall numbers are drawn at random by Weatherbys (except in a handful of top races that allow each horse’s connections, having been randomly selected, to choose the stall number for their horse). A horse with a seemingly advantageous draw is said to be “well drawn”. Stalls are used for Flat racing only. Filly Female horse four-years-old or younger. Foal Horse of either sex from its birth until 1

January the following year.

Furlong 220 yards (one eighth

of a mile). The numbered posts on British racecourses count the furlongs back from the winning post.

Under Starter’s Orders Occurs when the race is Visor Similar to blinkers, but with a slit in each eye cup to allow some lateral vision. A horse wearing a visor is denoted on a racecard by a small v next to the horse’s weight (v1 indicates that the horse is wearing a visor in a race for the first time). Weighing In/Out Each jockey (wearing his racing

kit and carrying his saddle) must stand on official weighing scales before and after the race, so that the Clerk of the Scales can check that the jockey is carrying the correct weight allotted to his horse. If a jockey is above the allotted weight before the race, his horse can still compete but must carry overweight. When the weights carried by the winner and placed horses have been verified after the race, there will be an announcement that they have ‘weighed in’. This confirms the race result and at this point bookmakers will pay out on successful bets.

Yearling Horse of either sex from 1 January to 31 December of the year following its birth.

SUN 13 SEPT

NIGHT IN VEGAS

Race preview from Weatherbys We are extremely proud to be sponsoring the Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes on the opening day of Doncaster’s St Leger Meeting this afternoon, this the 18th year Weatherbys has supported the race.

Joseph O’Brien sends across Counterattack gelding Seven Nation Army, an impressive wide-margin Galway nursery winner who should be suited by conditions and is tried in firsttime cheekpieces. Mithaaly represents George Boughey and William Buick and looked a very smart prospect when running out an impressive winner of a Windsor maiden last time.

Kennet Valley Syndicates landed this prize 12 months ago with the smart filly Calendar Girl and again hold strong claims here with Night In Vegas. Eve Johnson Houghton’s Lucky Vega colt is clear of the field on official ratings but benefits from a light weight with these conditions. Three from five in his career, he posted strong efforts in Group 2 contests at Royal Ascot and Goodwood before taking the valuable Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes in good style last time.

Clive Cox has two in the race, headed by the Rossa Ryan-ridden Satellite Of Love. The Minzaal colt won both of his first two starts before finishing a fair fifth in the Harry’s Half Million at York. Stablemate Secret Society was seventh in that contest and bids to shed his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking. Kevin Ryan has won the race twice since 2018, most recently with subsequent Listed winner Room Service in 2023. He relies on Dorigo here who, despite being a four-race maiden, has some strong form in the book. Narrowly denied in a usually-strong maiden at Goodwood, the Space Blues colt rallied well late to finish fourth in Listed company last time and should appreciate this step back up in trip.

Night In Vegas sets a high standard under Charles Bishop. Richard Spencer’s Zigazig Ah was runner-up to that rival at Newmarket last time and is no stranger to big-field sales races, having landed the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury back in July. The Rajasinghe filly again gets in here at the foot of the weights and can play a big part with Saffie Osborne back in the saddle.

Andrew Balding has also won the race twice in the last decade and the consistent The Dancing Pirate bids for his first career success. The Blackbeard colt hasn’t always looked the most straightforward ride, hanging badly at York last time when looking the likely winner, but clearly has plenty of talent.

A very big field for this valuable sales event but NIGHT IN VEGAS holds the clear edge on form and is fancied to follow up his stylish victory in the Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket and gain a fourth success in an excellent first season. PA R K H I L L STA STA K E S The Park Hill Stakes is a Group 2 contest for fillies and mares aged three and older, run over 1m6f. Often referred to as the ‘Fillies’ St Leger’, it is one of the feature races of the Betfred St Leger Festival and shares the same distance as the St Leger itself. First established in 1839, the race takes its name from Park Hill, Hill, an estate formerly owned by Anthony St Leger, founder of the St Leger Stakes. It was initially restricted to three-year-old fillies and was awarded Group 2 status when the grading system was introduced in 1971. The race was subsequently downgraded to Group 3 in 1991 before returning to Group 2 level in 2004. Frankie Dettori is the most successful jockey in Park Hill Stakes history, with seven victories. His impressive roll of honour includes Anna of Saxony (1993), Noble Rose (1995), Echoes in Eternity (2004), Eastern Aria (2010), Meeznah (2011), Free Wind (2021) and Mimikyu (2022). John Scott and Noel Murless share the record for the most wins by a trainer, with seven victories each. In more recent times, Luca Cumani and Sir Henry Cecil have considerable success, with six wins each.

The fastest winning time on record was set by Rising Cross in 2006, who completed the race in 2:58.46 under Martin Dwyer. No horse has managed to win the Park Hill Stakes more than once. Recent winners have continued to demonstrate the depth and quality associated with the race. Free Wind and Mimikyu gave Frankie Dettori back-to-back victories in 2021 and 2022, before Sumo Sam landed the prize in 2023 for Paul and Oliver Cole. Cole. Nakheel followed in 2024 for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. Crowley. The 2025 renewal saw Santorini Star produce a determined frontrunning performance under Tom Marquand to beat Consent by a neck to give proud Yorkshireman William Haggas a first win in this race.

M AY H I L L STA STA K E S The May Hill Stakes is a Group 2 contest for two-year-old fillies, run over a mile at Doncaster Racecourse. The 2026 renewal will mark the 51st running of the race since its inaugural staging in 1976. Named after the Peter Walwyn-trained May Hill, who won the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster in 1975, the race began life as a Group 3 contest before being elevated to Group 2 status in 2003. It has since established itself as one of the leading autumn races for juvenile fillies and an important pointer towards the following season’s Classic programme. Sir Henry Cecil remains the most successful trainer in May Hill Stakes history, having saddled 12 winners, including Reams Of Verse in 1996 and Half Glance in 2001. John Gosden is next on the list with six victories, underlining his longstanding record in the race. Frankie Dettori leads the jockey standings with six wins, with his 2021 success aboard Inspiral among his most notable. Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, Inspiral subsequently progressed to Group 1 glory in the Fillies’ Mile, demonstrating the quality of fillies the May Hill can produce. Irish-trained fillies have enjoyed limited success in recent years, with just three victories in the last 20 years. Agnes Stewart (2014), Turret Rocks (2015) and Fleeting (2018) are the three Irish-trained winners during that period, with Fleeting providing Aidan O’Brien with his sole May Hill Stakes success to date. The 2025 renewal saw Karl Burke add another May Hill Stakes victory

to his record as Aylin, owned by Al Shaqab Racing and Amo Racing and ridden by David Egan, beat Andrew Balding’s Pacific Mission by three-quarters of a length. The victory made Aylin Burke’s third winner in the race, following Laurens (2017) and Darnation (2023). Aylin’s success also highlighted the May Hill’s role as a stepping stone towards the Classics. She subsequently finished fifth in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac at ParisLongchamp, before being earmarked for a potential tilt at the following season’s 1000 Guineas. With its prestigious roll of honour and strong record of producing future Group 1 performers, the May Hill remains one of the key races of the season for Europe’s leading two-year-old fillies.
