Horse and Jockey Welfare
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface.
On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk.’

Toughed it out well to maintain his unbeaten record in Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and extra distance promises to suit. Big shout.
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
KEY Jockey Trainer
1
SOLAR OF AUCKHORN
11-4
John Lamb - JPL Racing Luella Arendal
2nd in 2023 & last year’s winning Pony A recent winner at Huntingdon and is looking to keep their excellent strike rate Would be tough to rule out.
2
HYKOS BEES NEES
3-1
John Lamb - JPL Racing Maddie Taylor
Winning pony from 2024, experienced jockey aboard but was only 4th last time out when sent off as fav.
3 HAPPYHANSEL THORFIN
5-2
John Lamb - JPL Racing Aoife Hadland
A surprise winner at Huntingdon last year and franked the form by winning here earlier this year Was a nose 2nd to No1 most recently but if getting a run will figure in the finish.
4 ORKNEYS SUGAR PLUM 8-1
John Lamb - JPL Racing Tallulah Roberts
In fine form last season but this is tougher, a good young jockey takes over today but that being said will need a season’s best to win this
5 ARLO OF AUCKHORN 4-1
John Lamb - JPL Racing Bethany Miller
Ever consistent Pony who will be running on as the race unfolds. A quick start could make all the difference. Won earlier this year at Exeter and stepping back up in grade with a new rider aboard today Interesting to see Bethany is aboard this one after winning on no.3 last time
6
BERGLI JULIAN
8-1
John Lamb - JPL Racing Maisie Ward
Julian enjoys Doncaster having been in the top part of the field in all previous visits. Will find this tough but difficult to rule out under this confident young jockey who has previously won at the track.
7 KNIX NADINE 6-1
Nicki Marsden - JPL Racing Evelyn Clayton
A winning pony back in 2018 and often runs a great race, second run this season so fitness shouldn’t be an issue. Has ran well already this year under this rider.
8 ULVERSCROFT CASCADIA 6-4
Nicki Marsden - JPL Racing Lily May Bush
Regarded as Nicki Marsden’s biggest young talents of a pony, winner last season and a great jockey aboard is likely to be in the medals.
9 LUNAR LARSEN
8-1
Nicki Marsden - JPL Racing Sophia Hills
A top grade pony who rarely runs a bad race No reason they shouldn’t be in the mix. Sophia is in her first season of Shetland racing.
10 HELLO JIMMY 8-1
Nicki Marsden - JPL Racing Ayesha Al-Amin
Can find this grade a bit hot to handle but has previously won in it so if getting a clear run should run well with an experienced jockey aboard today.
A combination who has previously ran some excellent races. Is in a tougher grade today but no reason why they shouldn’t run well 12 ORLA OF AUCKHORN 2-1
2 wins already this season including 1 under this jockey Looks as though this step up in grade should be within their reach.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: TARRIANCE trained by A Balding, Kingsclere, 179 miles.
Well-bred TARRIANCE can build on his impressive Beverley success and may take this on his way to better things Bahadur still looked to be learning his job when third in a Newmarket novice last time, that form seems to be working out and he could well prove the main danger. Gravitas chased home Tarriance last time and may have to settle for minor honours again.

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER
At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting.
Use of Screens
It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse!
