Hello and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for the grand finale of the Betfred St Leger Festival, Betfred Sunday Funday. We’re delighted to have you with us for what promises to be a fantastic final day, celebrating the very best of racing and family entertainment. We’d like to thank our festival sponsor Betfred, along with today’s race sponsors, Japan Racing Association, Gulliver’s Theme Parks, and Parkes Roofing for their generous support. The highlight of today’s racing is the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes, the fourth race of the day. Named after the legendary racehorse Sceptre, who made history in 1902 as the only horse to win four British Classics in a single season, including the St Leger Stakes here at Doncaster, the Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes has been a key fixture of the St Leger Festival since 1982. We’ve got a fantastic line-up of free family entertainment in store for you today, including PAW Patrol characters Chase and Skye making appearances at intervals throughout the day, a treasure hunt, a colouring, reading and craft corner, a roaming brass band, and the Doncaster Rovers FC Foundation and players will be attending. There will also be a fun fair with rides for the little ones on site (fees apply), while Andy’s Man Club will be in the Exhibition Hall throughout the day. Make sure to take advantage of our exclusive drinks offer. Guests can enjoy 50% off all draught drinks, as well as £10 off bottles of House Wine, Prosecco, Champagne and Pimms Jugs during the first 60 minutes after gates open. Terms and conditions apply, and we ask all guests to enjoy responsibly. There’s lots more to look forward to after the festival, with a host of exciting events coming up. Join us for the return of our popular Oktoberfest Weekend on Friday 2nd October and Saturday 3rd October, alongside our Spooky Spectacular Fireworks Night on Sunday 1st November, featuring live K-Pop entertainment, a fun fair and a spectacular fireworks display.
With Christmas just around the corner, you can also get into the festive spirit at our brand-new Après Village Shared Christmas Party Nights, featuring The Après Ski Main Stage, a festive three-course meal, Christmas Karaoke Booths, Alpine Curling Lanes and much more. Our next fixture is the Futurity Trophy Weekend on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October, which will be followed by the November Handicap which will close the flat season on Saturday 7th November. Tickets for all our upcoming racedays and events are available now at doncaster-racecourse.co.uk Thank you to everyone who’s joining us for Betfred Sunday Funday 2026. Our team is committed to making sure you have a fantastic day, and we truly appreciate your feedback. We hope you enjoy a memorable final day of a historic Betfred St Leger Festival with us.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

Maiden Horse which has not yet won a race. Handicap A race where each horse is allotted
a different weight to carry, according to the official handicap ratings determined by the BHA Handicappers. The theory is that all horses run on a fair and equal basis - the ‘perfect’ handicap being one where all the runners finish in a dead-heat.
Mare Female horse aged five years old or above. Bit Metal part of the bridle that sits in a horse’s Middle Distances On the Flat, races beyond a mile
mouth. The reins are then attached to the bit and used by the jockey to control the horse.
Blinkers A form of headgear worn by the horse, consisting of a hood with cups around the eyes. They are used to limit a horse’s vision and reduce distractions, with the aim of making it concentrate. Cheekpieces Strips of sheepskin that are attached to the side of a horse’s bridle. They partially obscure a horse’s rear vision, with the aim of getting the horse to concentrate on racing. Clerk of the Course Racecourse official responsible for the overall racecourse management, including the preparation of the racing surface. Clerk of the Scales Racecourse official

Rating A measure of the ability of a horse on a scale
starting at zero and going into three figures. Flat and Jump racing use different scales; the highest-rated Flat horse is usually in the 130s and the top-rated jumper in the 180s.

Distance The length of a race. Dam Mother of a horse. Draw A horse’s starting position in the stalls allotted in races on the Flat. Stall numbers are drawn at random by Weatherbys (except in a handful of top races that allow each horse’s connections, having been randomly selected, to choose the stall number for their horse). A horse with a seemingly advantageous draw is said to be “well drawn”. Stalls are used for Flat racing only. Filly Female horse four-years-old or younger. Under Starter’s Orders Occurs when the race is Visor Similar to blinkers, but with a slit in each eye cup to allow some lateral vision. A horse wearing a visor is denoted on a racecard by a small v next to the horse’s weight (v1 indicates that the horse is wearing a visor in a race for the first time). Weighing In/Out Each jockey (wearing his racing
kit and carrying his saddle) must stand on official weighing scales before and after the race, so that the Clerk of the Scales can check that the jockey is carrying the correct weight allotted to his horse. If a jockey is above the allotted weight before the race, his horse can still compete but must carry overweight. When the weights carried by the winner and placed horses have been verified after the race, there will be an announcement that they have ‘weighed in’. This confirms the race result and at this point bookmakers will pay out on successful bets.
Yearling Horse of either sex from 1 January to 31 December of the year following its birth.
MEET THE FACES SOPHIE GRIFFITHS RACING EXECUTIVE
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PART OF THE DONCASTER TEAM? I joined in July 2024. WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE JOINING DONCASTER RACECOURSE? Before I worked here I was an Assistant Racehorse Trainer. HOW MANY ST LEGER FESTIVALS HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN? I’ve been involved in the St Leger Festival since 2003, when I led my first St Leger horse up. It’s been an incredible journey to be part of such a historic event for so many years. WHICH DAY OF THE ST LEGER FESTIVAL IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL FOR YOU? Leger Day, the atmosphere is incredible and the Portland Handicap is a race I thoroughly enjoy! WHAT’S A TYPICAL WEEK LIKE FOR YOU, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ST LEGER MEMORY OR A STORY YOU LOVE TO TELL? Very busy, having been heavily involved over the years on all sides and being a Doncaster local, the week has always been important.
My favourite St Leger memory would be Bollin Eric winning the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster in 2002, becoming the first Yorkshire-trained winner of the classic race since 1973. WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT DONCASTER RACECOURSE? The team at Doncaster. Our grounds team are incredible and deserve a big pat on the back. WHICH PART OF THE RACECOURSE IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE, AND WHY? Lots of areas, but Bawtry Road is very quiet and has a lovely view. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COLOUR WHEN IT COMES TO JOCKEY’S SILKS? Red and blue, as they are lucky colours for me. ARE YOU EXCITED TO CELEBRATE 250 YEARS OF THE ST LEGER FESTIVAL? Yes, as it’s an important year for Doncaster.
REYT GOOD MERCH. TAKE HOME A PIECE OF HISTORY.

MEET THE FACES GEORGIA REAST-SUMMERS REGIONAL STAFFING MANAGER
WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE AT THE RACECOURSE? Looking after all of the casual catering staff. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PART OF THE DONCASTER TEAM? Started as a casual April 2016, joined perm team as of Aug 2021. WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE JOINING DONCASTER RACECOURSE? Finished my GCSEs/A-levels! This was my first job. HOW MANY ST LEGER FESTIVALS HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN? 10! WHICH DAY OF THE ST LEGER FESTIVAL IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL FOR YOU? Saturday - There’s something really special about finishing a staff check-in and seeing the whole racecourse ready to go. It’s so satisfying to see everything the team has worked towards finally come together, and it always makes me excited for the festival ahead.
WHAT’S A TYPICAL WEEK LIKE FOR YOU, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ST LEGER MEMORY OR A STORY YOU LOVE TO TELL? Lots of early mornings and late nights! (And a lot of caffeine). Early check-ins for staff. One of my favorite memories would be battling the winds last year (2025) to get the staffing marquee set! It was emotional but a good laugh! Other than the uniform continuously running away! WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT DONCASTER RACECOURSE? Being involved in such a vast, diverse team is really enjoyable. Dealing with people from all walks of life, hearing people’s stories. WHICH PART OF THE RACECOURSE IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE, AND WHY? The Sky Garden. The views from there are unmatched. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COLOUR WHEN IT COMES TO JOCKEY’S SILKS? Anything purple! Extra points if it has any fun shapes or designs! ARE YOU EXCITED TO CELEBRATE 250 YEARS OF THE ST LEGER FESTIVAL? Absolutely, it’s a once in a lifetime milestone.
