The Flat is Back! Welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for the first fixture of the British Flat turf season – The William Hill Lincoln. We are delighted you’ve joined us here today and we would like to thank our sponsors William Hill and EBF for their generous support of today’s fixture.
There are 8 races on the card today with the last race at 5:20pm and our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and resident tipster Roger Hart will be in the Parade Ring at around 12:40pm to run through the racecard with you and hopefully pick you out some winners!
The main event today is our feature race – The William Hill Lincoln Handicap at 3:35pm worth £150k, which is run over a straight mile and is open to four-year-old runners or older. The race is considered one of the great historic turf handicaps that defines the Flat and has an illustrious roll call and allure for horsemen and punters alike.
The Lincolnshire Handicap was inaugurated at Lincoln’s Carholme Racecourse in 1849 and was run over two miles in August. The race was run in various guises until 1859 when it became set as a mile race in March. This Spring meeting was renamed The Lincolnshire Handicap and it continued to be held at Lincoln Racecourse until the track closed in 1964. The 1965 contest was moved to Doncaster and renamed the Lincoln Handicap
To help us open ‘The Greatest Show’ we have stilt walkers and jugglers and there are plenty of photo opportunities in the Exhibition Hall ‘Big Top’ We also have Kevin ‘The Artist’ Painter – Painter is an English retired darts player, known as “The Artist”. He is arguably most famous for finishing as the runner-up to Phil Taylor in the 2004 PDC World Championship final, now widely credited as one of the greatest televised matches in the history of the sport Kevin will be in the exhibition hall so go and join him for a game!
We have teamed up with FanCave to bring you an exciting fan zone in the exhibition hall from midday Join us for a day packed with action, hosted by Josh Stacey and featuring expert tipster talks from James Atkinson Enjoy a variety of content, competition, games, and exclusive interviews with trainers and jockeys!
The fun also continues tomorrow when Town Moor will ‘Come Alive’ for the Lincoln Family Fun Day where there’ll be lots of FREE entertainment, circus-themed activities and The Greatest Showman interactive mini shows throughout the day for the kids!

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A strong-looking renewal of this Listed contest. LIBERTY LANE produced one of the handicap performances of 2024 when landing the Cambridgeshire in good style on his penultimate start and has to be considered the one to beat on his return to action. HBLB PRIZE MONEY
The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £345,306 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 29th March to 22nd June 2025.
Looking forward to sharing many more wonderful years together, and seeing our family flourish.
Lincoln The
The original Lincolnshire Handicap was ran at Lincoln Racecourse in 1849 over 2m in August.
The race was not transferred to Doncaster until 1965 following the closure of Lincoln. The inaugural running of the William Hill Lincoln Handicap as it is now known took place over 1m on Town Moor in 1965 and was won by Old Tom, trained by Yorkshireman Peter Easterby. There was no running of this prestigious handicap in
2020 due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Since the race has taken place at Doncaster, there has never been a dual winner of the contest.
Top trainer William Haggas is the most successful trainer in the history of the race in the modern era winning it four times with High Low (1992), Very Wise (2007),
Penitent (2010) and most recently with Addeybb (2018). Since 2011, there has only been one winning favourite in the shape of Auxerre (2019; 5/2f). 10 of the 13 runnings to have taken place since 2011 have all been won by horses at double-figure odds. This race usually fits the profile of a young, unexposed type who is on the improve with 5 of the previous 10 renewals won by 4yo’s. Last year’s renewal was won by 33/1 Amo Racing-owned outsider Mr Professor for trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis who had never won the race before.
This year’s William Hill Lincoln Handicap has attracted 69 entries and is worth £150,000 Runners from the likes of Karl Burke, William Haggas and Ed Bethell are all represented and another highly competitive running lies ahead in the 60th renewal of one of Yorkshire’s favourite races. Karl Burke’s Thunder Run has featured towards the head of the betting for this race for quite some time now after he showed solid form in big-field handicaps as a 3yo. He looks just the type to progress again in 2025 and would be a fascinating runner if lining up.
