Chepstow Racecard - Saturday 5th April

Page 1

We’re so pleased to welcome you to Chepstow racecourse for our latest jumps fixture, our Grand National Party raceday. It’s a wonderful day to be racing with it being one of the biggest day’s for our industry with the Grand National itself live from Aintree on the big screen at 4pm.

We’ve got plenty going on for you today with some great action on and off the track, all leading up to our special guest Mathew Horne (From Gavin & Stacey) performing a live DJ set after racing. Mathew will be performing his DJ set in the Bonanza Boy marquee straight after the last race so head over there for the party to continue after racing finishes.

As mentioned above, all eyes today are on racing’s biggest day, with huge public affection for the race that so many people view as the pinnacle of jumps racing. We will of course be featuring a live broadcast of the big race, as well as the rest of the card from Aintree, on our big screen and on the remainder of the screens throughout the course. You’ll find details of all the runners and riders for Aintree as well as here at Chepstow in this racecard.

We have another big day soon upon us with our Bank Holiday Music Tribute Festival on Easter Monday in partnership with Social Eats. This promises to be a wonderful day of live music, food and drink with family entertainment all throughout the day. The music will start from gates opening and will be flowing throughout the whole day, as well as after racing so do come and join us for something a little different and an unmissable event.

A big thank you today to our extremely loyal sponsors DragonBet. We thank you for your continued support and are looking forward to hosting you for the day. You’ll find a couple of the DragonBet team around the course handing out some flyers, and the guys will be on the betting rail ready and waiting to take your bets for the day.

All that’s left for me to do is wish you a wonderful day with us today, thank you once again for your support of the racecourse and I wish you all the best in finding a few winners along the way today.

CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton and Worcester racecourses

Refusal Of Admission

The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone and to remove any person from the course without assigning a reason for doing so We do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to a person or their property. This is stated in our T&Cs, which may be obtained from the Racecourse Office

Parade Ring

This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and fitness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.

Placing a Bet

The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.

The Weighing Room

This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is finished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.

Winners Enclosure

Unauthorised Bookmaking

It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure

“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to specific assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.

Please see the assembly points clearly marked on the map.

After each race, the first four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Probable S.P’s: 9-1 Jeriko du Reponet (FR), Catch Him Derry (IRE), 11-1 Bo Zenith (FR), 12-1 Act of Authority (FR), Bill Joyce (IRE), Nurse Susan (FR), 14-1 Timmy Tuesday (IRE), 16-1 Kamsinas (FR), 18-1 Rushmount (IRE), Barry Lyndon (IRE), 20-1 Double Powerful (IRE), 22-1 Park of Kings (IRE), 28-1 Push The Button (IRE), 33-1 Jipcot (FR), 40-1 Deep Cave (IRE), Shanagh Bob (IRE), 50-1 Whatcouldhavebeen (IRE), Dartan (GB), Building Bridges (GB), 66-1 Maximilian (GER), 100-1 Dinons (FR)

TIMMY TUESDAY has won both his handicap starts to date, the latest when clocking a decent timefigure over 2 1/2m at Down Royal. He’s totally unexposed as a stayer and there could be more improvement to come tackling 3m for the first time. Dan Skelton arrives with a strong hand in his bid for a hat-trick in this race, and Catch Him Derry may be the pick having come from an unlikely position to finish third in the Pertemps final. Bo Zenith looks interesting tried in headgear over this longer trip.

PLAY SMARTER

LULAMBA might have lost his unbeaten record in the Triumph Hurdle, but he enhanced an already lofty reputation in every other respect and, with the step up in trip unlikely to hold any fears given how he rallied in a well-run race at the Festival, he’s the clear pick in receipt of 10lb from all his rivals. Miami Magic is interesting now upped in trip on pedigree having shown useful form and encouraging speed at 2m, while the unbeaten Horaces Pearl and Fingle Bridge others to note.

Despite failing to justify fairly short odds, 2024 Stayers’ Hurdle winner TEAHUPOO didn’t do a lot wrong when second in last month’s renewal, beaten for a turn of foot by an enigmatic but very talented opponent He stuck to the task really well, though, and brings the most solid credentials to the table here. A break may have done last year’s winner Strong Leader the world of good and he’s a threat, with Kitzbuhel undoubtedly the most intriguing runner upped markedly

NINTH LOCH must bounce back from a lesser effort at Newbury but he’s certainly in the right hands to do so and he can make the most of a drop in class Course-regular Zambezi Fix normally needs a good pace to show his best form, which is a worry here but he’s still looks the main threat.

Bar a luckless fall at Ascot IROKO has had an ideal campaign all geared around this race and he ticks most of the boxes, possessing the right blend of speed and stamina and seeming sure to stay back at a meeting where he has twice run well. He can give JP McManus a record-breaking fourth Grand National and third in 5 years. Perceval Legallois is another big player for the top owner, while Minella Cocooner could be the pick of the Willie Mullins’ half-dozen. Intense Raffles is also in the mix.

Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of races have been added for the convenience of the Public, but are subject to alteration All horses must parade in the Parade Ring, except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post.

A finale where worthwhile hurdle form is thin on the ground The way in which VICTOR HAZE took second late on over 2m here recently suggests he may do better again back over further There is some unexposed potential among the handicap newcomers and market moves for the likes of Marco’s Light and/or Harvie Wallbanger could prove significant.

El Cairos will be a big threat if over his Cheltenham Champion Bumper exertions. Debut-scorers Quaviste, Kilwaughter and Le Labo are just a few of many others to consider
