WELCOME
A very warm welcome to Chepstow Racecourse. It is a pleasure to welcome you to Chepstow Racecourse for another evening of summer Flat racing, with tonight’s meeting, an additional fixture recently transferred to our calendar. It has already been a memorable summer here at Chepstow, with August marking 100 years of racing at the racecourse. As we begin our second century, there is plenty to look forward to, but tonight our attention is firmly on the action on the track, with seven competitive Flat races to enjoy throughout the evening. We would also like to extend our warmest congratulations to Paul and Anne De Weck on reaching an impressive 50 winners in total. The milestone was reached yesterday, 27th August, with a victory at Ffos Las – a fantastic achievement and a very special landmark to celebrate. As always, I would also like to thank the owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff, officials and everyone working behind the scenes whose hard work and continued support make our racedays possible. We are incredibly grateful for the contribution you all make to racing here at Chepstow. There is still plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Our 2026 Flat season concludes with our Bank Holiday Family Fun Day on Monday 31st August, before attention turns to the eagerly anticipated return of National Hunt racing and one of the highlights of our calendar, the DragonBet Welsh Racing Festival in October. Thank you for joining us today. We hope you enjoy a wonderful evening of racing and that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Chepstow Racecourse again very soon. Upcoming Feature Events: Bank Holiday Family Fun Day – Monday, 31st August Get ready for an unforgettable Family Day at the races, packed with live music, family fun, and a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish! Dragonbet Welsh Racing Festival – Friday 9th – Sunday 11th October It’s the ultimate start to the British jump season. Each day offers something special including the Dragonbet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) and the Dragonbet Veteran’s Chase on Friday, the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle on Saturday and the DragonBet Welsh Champion Hurdle on Sunday. It’s the perfect way to experience the very best of Welsh jump racing with live entertainment and a buzzing atmosphere. Thank you for joining us today. Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HHHHH Selected to win the race. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
