Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for our St Patrick’s Sunday Raceday fixture. We’re thrilled to have you with us and will be bringing you 7 live competitive races this afternoon.

We kick off the action at 14:02 with a Mares’ Maiden Hurdle going right through to a National Hunt Flat Race to finish the day at 17:17.

We’re glad to be joined by a live Irish band, The Tin Monkeys, who will be playing live on entrance into the Premier Enclosure and will be playing during the day in the Premier Foyer

It’s wonderful to see so many students with us today, with over 5000 joining us for this St Patrick’s Day Sunday and we thank Invades for their continued support. It’s wonderful to see their terrific work in bringing so many new faces into racing and we’re very pleased to be working with them on providing a great raceday experience for new customers, whom we hope will come back time and time again to visit us at Chepstow

Big thanks must go to our 2 sponsors today, Capital Windscreens and DragonBet. Both companies are huge sponsors of the racecourse not just today but across the year and for many years previous and we greatly appreciate their continued support.

We have a couple of big days coming up. Firstly the Grand National Party Raceday on Saturday 5th April, featuring a DJ set by Mathew Horne (from Gavin & Stacey) live after racing. This day is then soon followed by our popular Bank Holiday Monday fixture on 21st April. This year we’ve partnered with Social Eats to host a Music Tribute Festival on this day. Please visit our website to see more information and purchase your tickets.

Finally, a big thank you to you all for attending today. We hope you have lots of fun, and find a few winners along the way.

CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton and Worcester racecourses

Refusal Of Admission

The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone and to remove any person from the course without assigning a reason for doing so We do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to a person or their property. This is stated in our T&Cs, which may be obtained from the Racecourse Office

Parade Ring

This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and fitness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.

Placing a Bet

The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.

The Weighing Room

This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is finished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.

Winners Enclosure

Unauthorised Bookmaking

It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure

“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to specific assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.

Please see the assembly points clearly marked on the map.

After each race, the first four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
