Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Welcome to Bath Racecourse for another thrilling evening of racing
Tonight, we’re turning up the volume with Britpop Night, join us after the final race on the Final Furlong Lawn for live music and great vibes. Enjoy a sunset singalong and dance to the sounds of an Oasis tribute band. Let’s make it a night to remember!
Tonight sees seven contests take place over a variety of distances from 5 furlongs up to 1 mile 6 furlongs, with many regular horses back in action including Blue Hero in our fifth race, the NSPCC Handicap, at 8.05pm.
Adrian Wintle’s seven year old will become the most winning horse at Bath if he is victorious tonight as it will be his 9th victory here.
The evening begins with another Bath Summer Stayers’ Series Qualifier at 5.15pm, where another Bath specialist, Russian Rumour, is due to run here for the 12th time in his career.
Russian Rumour is looking for his fourth win at the track, but it will be far from plain sailing forJonathan Portman’s charge, as Emma Lavelle’s Grey Owl, who finished 3rd in last year’s Summer Stayers Final, returns to the track along with four other strong contenders.
We still have upgrades available for both our Royal Crescent Restaurant and the stunning Roof Garden. Ifyou’d like to upgrade your experience, please visit the Customer Service Station, where a member of our team will be happy to assist you.
Looking ahead, don’t miss Ladies Day on Saturday 14th June, a standout event on our racing calendar. And be sure to save the date forABBANight on Friday 1st August, promising a fantastic party atmosphere and great entertainment.
On behalf of myself and all the team here at Bath Racecourse, thank you for joining us today. We hope you have a fantastic raceday and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
