Avery warm welcome to our evening flat meeting on Wednesday 17th May.

We have kicked the season off in fantastic style and have already welcomed over 15,000 spectators through the gates so far this season, and we are looking forward to what the rest of the season brings. We have had some incredibly competitive racing during the start of our season and I would like to thank all Owners & Trainers for choosing to run their horses with ourselves to date and the very best of luck to all runners this evening.

As you will see in the racecard, we have a number of exciting races occurring this evening. Our first 6 races are very kindly sponsored by Star Sports, who I would like to personally thank for their support of our raceday this evening.

You will also notice that our final race is being ran in celebration of the vaccination centre we hosted at the racecourse during 2021 & 2022. The centre did a phenomenal job in aiding the vaccine roll out to the people of Bath and the surrounding areas and I would like to thank all those involved for their hard work. I would like to wish all those connected with Star Sports and the NHS, an enjoyable evening.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our raceday employees who have worked tirelessly during the start of this season. I would like to thank you for your continued commitment and dedication. We always receive outstanding feedback about the excellent service you provide on all of our fixtures throughout the season, so I would like to express my gratitude for all of your hard work.

We hope you have a wonderful evening with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon to another 2023 fixture.

Wishing you a very enjoyable day from all at Bath Racecourse.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed.

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

DIAMOND COTTAGE has proved at least as good as ever on her last 2 starts, winning at Brighton before running well at ƒolverhampton a week later, so she is taken to score again with a hood now reapplied. She can get the better of Symbol of Hope, who bids to follow up his course success from 16 days ago, with Shesadabber completing the shortlist.

RACE SUMMARY

This looks to revolve around HAATEM, who started to get the hang of things late on at Goodwood 12 days ago and with improvement very much on the cards, Richard Hannon’s colt should take some stopping. Eve 3ohnson Houghton had a winning newcomer here last month and her Big Brown Bear may emerge as the main danger, ahead of Anglesey Lad and Shaws Phoenix.
