The Chicano Movement
The picture to the right depicts three members of La Raza. They are wearing much more casual attire than what was seen in the previous decades. During this era, it became more acceptable for women to wear shorter skirts and shorts, whereas in the past the norm was to have hemlines fall just above or below the knee, the hemlines in the 60s and 70s fell mid-thigh. During this time a lot more women were wearing pants, shorts, and sneakers. It was important to wear attire that was practical and conducive to demonstrations.
As was mentioned previously, the style of the 1960s and 70s was diverse. Although some Chicanas ditched big voluminous hair, heels, skirts, and dresses, others did not. In fact, these women reinvented the look by wearing shorter dresses and skirts with no stockings. Also, shorter voluminous bobs were more popular.
