The Reality Of

I have a complicated relationship with ‘yes’. Maybe it’s entanglement... I’m not really sure. But the truth is, I LOVE saying ‘Yes’. Clearly, I’m working to recover from years of people pleasing (as in daily work) but that aside, I really like to say ‘yes’. I like to get in the mix, be a part of what’s going on and don’t even get me started about my struggle with FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). All of these reasons are why my tendency to say ‘yes’ gets really complicated. It’s complicated because, as much as I want to be involved and help, I often lack intentionality in my ‘yes’ and find myself in situations or agreeing to tasks that are way outside of how I actually want/need to be prioritizing my time. Over the past month alone, I’ve had least two occasions where I invited someone to join a committee and I was BLOWN away by the discerning questions they asked me back so they could decide, with full information, whether they could agree to my ask. I honestly thought, “Why don’t I do this?” I also had a handful of situations pop up over the last few months
