INTRODUCTION FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s highest priority is protecting the health, safety, and well-being of every member of our community. While our goal is to begin the year with in person, on campus instruction, administrators and faculty are working diligently to create plans to provide safe and effective learning environments under all conditions that are also responsive to our community and as guided by the CDC, the MSDH, and others. While our goals will remain constant, we must be flexible and ready to adapt to conditions that can change quickly.

This Return to Campus Plan is intended to give our families a glimpse into the planning and factors we are considering for each of our learning scenarios. Please note that at any time this information and our needs as a school may change due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19. We will provide additional updates on our planning throughout the summer, including a detailed expansion of this Return to Campus Plan on August 3.

Dismissal at 2:30 pm (ECC) and 3:00 pm (1-4).

Temperature Check & Questionnaire Modified arrival/dismissal plan – No early bird arrival. All grades arrive between 7:30-8:00 am and dismiss between 2:30 pm (ECC) and 2:45 (1-4).

OPTIONAL VIRTUAL LEARNING TRACKS If parents choose to have their children learn from home in the fall, students will be required to commit to the virtual learning option for a minimum of one quarter, beginning with the first quarter of the school year, and they would need to complete the quarter online. The structure of learning will be as follows:

LOWER SCHOOL: PRE-K3 – 1ST

MIDDLE SCHOOL

1. Students would be required to register for the Saints@Home program for a minimum of one quarter, beginning with the first quarter of the school year, and adhere to the health and safety guidelines as defined.

2. A St. Andrew’s faculty member would provide inhome academic support for the student under the following guidelines:

1. Lessons and materials will be provided online via Google Classroom, and students will have a list of materials needed to accomplish work from home.

3. Online classes will cover the same material and curriculum as in person classes. Some assignments may be adjusted to reflect the virtual environment.

The school will strive to create opportunities for teamwork and collaboration.

3. Students may be joining streamed classes – technology will be utilized to provide as immersive an opportunity as possible.

4. Students will have a schedule to meet their core subject teachers multiple times during the week.

5. Advisory will be a full class experience to allow online students to connect with students at school.

LOWER SCHOOL: GRADES 2 – 4 1. Lessons and materials will be provided online via Google Classroom.

2. Students will have a schedule to meet their assigned teacher every day for 15-20 minutes in small groups.

3. Students will have additional times during the week to interact with other teachers and specialists.

4. Students will have a list of materials needed to accomplish special projects from home.

5. Technology will be provided by August 10 to ensure the students can have the same access to Apps and resources.

UPPER SCHOOL 1. Lessons and materials will be provided online via Google Classroom with assessments being designed to give online students challenging projects to complete with fewer summative exams.

3. Students will have a schedule to meet their core teachers for 20-30 minutes 2-3 days a week, with additional times to interact with elective teachers.

However, some electives may be limited in the online environment.

5. Students will have a list of materials needed to accomplish special projects from home.

6. Class meetings and other large group activities will be coordinated to include online students when possible.

7. Students will need to come to campus for chapter and unit level assessments.

8. Students would not be participating in sports or other activities outside of the planned assessments.

WHAT MIGHT SCHOOL LOOK LIKE THIS FALL? SCREENING: There will be required temperature checks each morning before school and a questionnaire given regarding symptoms and whether anyone in the family is sick. Students will be reminded to wash hands frequently throughout the day.

SCHEDULE: Our school calendar and daily schedules may be adjusted to ensure reduced contact. Drop-off and pick-up times may be staggered or adjusted to assure social distancing.

CAMPUS: While physical distancing requirements are in place, students may be in new spaces and move with the same peer group every day.

VISITORS: Access to campus buildings likely will be limited.

HEALTH SERVICES: There will be full time nurses on both campuses. A separate health space will be available for any student who falls ill and needs to leave school. Screening and illness data will be carefully monitored.

FOOD SERVICES: Flik Dining is developing plans for preparing and serving meals and snacks according to safety and physical distancing guidelines. This may include dining in classrooms and/or outside.

ATHLETICS: The athletic department will continue health screening and follow the guidelines set by the MSDH and the MHSAA. There may be restrictions for athletic events, such as fan attendance limitations, and hygiene procedures for athletes. Distancing requirements may affect events at any time.
