A LIVE / GROW CO-HOUSING PROJECT FOR SENIORS

The goal of this project is to create equitable housing specifically for people 55 & older in the Lower Price Hill community. The project strives to redefine senior living by providing a co-living model of housing that will provide more opportunities for socialization and a built in support system for residents.

The project will ensure that every resident has access to fresh, healthy food through the large, shared greenhouse space where residents are encouraged to practice their gardening skills. The benefits of the greenhouse are twofold in that it provides healthy food to the residents while providing them a way to stay active and interact with others. The project seeks to redefine senior living while also keeping in mind the goals of the Green New Deal to create an equitable, sustainable housing project.

life expectancy declining while basic needs, such as clean air, clean water, healthy food, and adequate health care, housing, transportation,and education, are inaccessible to a significant portion of the United States population;”

My project aims to achieve some of the goals set forth in the Green New Deal. The senior co-housing project provides access to healthy food through the large greenhouse space where residents can grow fresh food, easy access to public transportation, and green roof technology for cleaner air, etc.

The project provides housing to a vulnerable demographic; the elderly. Hopefully the project will improve the overall quality of life of the residents and cut down on the carbon footprint by trying to follow the Green New Deal guidelines.

GREEN ROOFS Green roofs can reduce stormwater volumes by up to 85%. Plants soak up the water and release it as clean air. Water is retained by the soil layer and any excess flows to a drain.
