THE SITE:

Lower Price Hill


SIte Plan 1/16” - 1’0” Design Narrative:

To design a multi-use building that actively works to engage the Lower Price Hill Community by providing affordable housing options as well as cultivating job opportunities through the incoproration of a Hydroponics Greenhouse.


OVERALL PROGRAM: First Floor

1. Hydroponics Greenhouse - managed by external company - job opportunities and training to run the greenhouse are reserved to LPH residents

. Mini-Food Mart - sells produce grown in greenhouse - convenience for LPH residents - opportunity to buy food that you could then cook in the shared kitchen

3. Communal Dinning/Event Space - dynamic - performance - shared kitchen - space to put up pop-up shops (promote microeconomies)

4. Communal Living Space - main living space for building residents. - solarium/ double-height space - zones of engagement

Hydroponics Garden Viewing Area - quieter location to study or relax - emmersive experience into the greenhouse.

6. Shared Balcony - perching - people-watching - All along the North & East side of building

6. Water Collection System - slanted roof allows for rainwater collection - water is collected in cistern tanks bellow Greenhouse

7. Exterior Sheathing - reminiscent of historic district - form connects back alley to W. 8th Street (shortcut) - Operable Partitiions on first floor to activate W. 8th St. + connect to performance space
