CO-CHAIR BRAD JACOBSON Principal | EHDD An industry leader in sustainable architecture, Jacobson is skilled at synthesizing diverse perspectives to craft solutions that are energyefficient, budget-driven, and create exceptional occupant satisfaction. Jacobson is leading the way in designing carbon neutral projects starting with today’s all-electric, Net Zero energy buildings. He spearheads mixeduse office developments, from the Net Zero Energy and LEED Platinum certified HQ for The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (a National AIA Top Ten Green Building) to higher-education projects such as the Teaching & Learning Complex at UC Davis.

DEBORAH BOYER Executive Vice President | The Swig Company Boyer leads future focused initiatives in key areas including: evolving workplace, sustainability, wellness, and community impact, through a comprehensive platform called h3experiences. Previously, she was responsible for the company’s national portfolio as Director of Asset Management. Boyer’s current board affiliations: SPUR, Global Workspace Association, CRETech, Carbon Lighthouse, Liquid Space, and the Uptown/ Downtown Oakland Community Benefit Districts. Additional industry affiliations: Lamda Alpha, ULI, BOMA, CoreNet, WiPT.

IVAN CHABRA Associate | EHDD For 20 years, Chabra has led the design and documentation of a wide range of projects including: K-12 schools, libraries, university buildings, museums, restaurants, and urban residential developments. Energized by the parameters of each project and informed by an ethic of making, he embraces the complex coordination of disciplines and technical necessities of contemporary construction. Recent projects include: the UC San Diego Design & Innovation Building, Golden Gate Park Tennis Center, Marin Country Day School, and Lick Wilmerding High School. Chabra received a MArch from the Parsons School of Design.

KAREN BRANDT Senior Principal | Heintges Karen Brandt, AIA, leads the San Francisco–based West Coast office of Heintges. Since joining an awardwinning curtain wall consulting firm in 2001, she has managed projects in the U.S. and Asia and is the Heintges Senior Principal responsible for MIRA. Her expertise includes: museums, cultural institutions, complex towers, and architectural envelopes for luxury retail. She has taught at Pratt Institute and Parsons, and holds degrees in architecture from the College of Environmental Design, UC Berkeley, and Harvard GSD.

LAUREN J. DICENZO Project Consultant | SGH DiCenzo has worked on both historic and contemporary structures. Experience in building envelope systems includes: terrace deck waterproofing, roofing, exterior cladding, and glazing assemblies. She has consulted with architects, contractors, and building owners to deliver technically sound projects that maintain the architectural intent of the building envelope. DiCenzo graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

MADELINE GRADILLAS Environmental Designer | Atelier Ten Gradillas’s expertise is in daylight and thermal comfort analysis. She is currently working on the Biomed Realty Trust Gateway of the Pacific development in South San Francisco and the new Uber HQ, San Francisco, targeting LEED Platinum certification. She has a BArch from the University of Arizona, and an M.S. in Architectural Studies in Building Technology from MIT.

DAVID GREEN Principal | WJE Green specializes in curtain wall, glazing, and cladding systems. Collaborating with architects, he designs, details, and oversees the construction of building envelope systems for a vast range of building types, working closely with architects to turn their facade concepts into reality while meeting an ever-increasing array of performance criteria. Green also works on the recladding of existing buildings and conducts forensic investigations of building envelope failures, such as glass breakage or water leakage.

BOB HALE Principal & Creative Director | Rios Clementi Hale Studios Hale brings over 40 years’ experience to all facets of the design process, strategic project planning and programming, and overall project leadership and client relations. He has led creative collaborations for corporate, entertainment, retail, cultural, commercial, and residential clients. Previously, Hale was Creative Director and V.P. of Design and Planning for Universal Studios; he also worked for Frank O. Gehry Associates, overseeing award-winning projects including: the Temporary Contemporary for MOCA, Loyola Law School, and The Retail + Entertainment Center for Euro Disney.

JEFFREY HELLER President | Heller Manus Architects Heller, FAIA, is a leader in the profession and green movement with some of the first sustainable architecture and large-scale urban planning projects in the U.S. and China, including: the first LEED Gold office towers in the sister cities of San Francisco and Shanghai, the first LEED

Platinum neighborhood development master plan, a sustainable/livable master plan for Guangzhou’s North and South Axes, a sustainable urban plan proposal for Shanghai’s Yangpu Waterfront, and a sustainable urban plan for the city expansion area of Ulanhot, Inner Mongolia.

ERIC LUNDQUIST Principal | Heller Manus Architects During his 40-year career, 30 with Heller Manus, Lundquist has led as a design director, master planner, and project leader for extensive key USA and international projects. He is know for his proven expertise in problem solving, critical thinking, and team leadership in eco city planning, sustainable building design, tall building design, building construction, and technical solutions. Lundquist is a California registered professional architect with a MArch from the University of Virginia.

JAMES E. MENDYGRAL Associate Principal | SGH Mendygral has over 20 years’ industry experience in building enclosure and structural engineering. His expertise covers a full range of engineering services, including: assessments, design, and construction administration. Recent projects range from contemporary building enclosure design for various Silicon Valley technology companies to the award-winning restoration of PG&E’s historic HQ in San Francisco. In addition to private consulting, Mendygral serves as an industry advisor to the Architectural Engineering Department at Pennsylvania State University.

KATHERINE MILLER Senior Associate | EHDD Miller has expertise in a range of exterior cladding, including: all-glass curtain walls, metals, stone, terracotta, and precast concrete cladding systems. Since joining EHDD in 2006, Miller has led enclosure design on projects including: the David and Lucile Packard Foundation HQ and the curvilinear glass-clad Pacific Visions addition to the Aquarium of the Pacific. She has extensive experience with custom unitized curtain wall for high-rise buildings such as the City College of San Francisco Chinatown/North Beach campus, as well as high-performance enclosures for all building scales. She received her BArch from UC Berkeley, and MArch from Columbia University.

SYMPOSIUM PRESENTERS LYNNE RIESSELMAN Associate Principal | EHDD

BRENT VAN GUNTEN Technical Director | Gensler

Over the last 14 years Riesselman has brought a rigorous yet creative design ethic to museums and cultural centers, aquariums, higher education, and commercial projects. Recent work includes: the Kansas City Zoo Aquarium, the Marine Science Institute of Redwood City, and the Presidio Tunnel Tops Crissy Youth Campus. A recent contributor to a resilience panel at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums conference, she received her BArch from Carnegie Mellon University.

In his role serving the firm’s Northwest Regions, Van Gunten’s work has been invested in assuring the efficacy of highperformance building goals. Gensler provides inspiring and creative workplaces for office users, which Van Gunten supports through rigorous study of design impacts on energy, daylight, and occupant comfort. He has delivered on Gensler’s performance-based, award-winning projects including the Tower at PNC Plaza and Nvidia, among others.

GEORGE TOLOSA Associate Principal | Handel Architects

STEVE WIESENTHAL Principal | Studio Gang

Tolosa has 20-plus years’ experience in the design of commercial office and residential high-rise buildings within urban settings and of a highly technical nature. He brings particular experience in the feasibility study, concept design, and entitlement of high-density sites, and in the design and detailing of complex, performancedriven facade systems. Work includes: 950 Market Street, 340 Fremont Street Tower, and the Austin Proper Hotel & Residences. Previously, Tolosa worked in the San Francisco and London studios of Woods Bagot. Additional experience includes the design of projects internationally. Tolosa has a BArch from Cal Poly University, and a MArch from Harvard GSD.

Wiesenthal, FAIA, oversees Studio Gang’s San Francisco office, guiding teams in articulating and translating project visions into physical reality. Current projects include: a unified campus for the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, the renewal of Kresge College at UC Santa Cruz, and a new Government Center for the County of San Mateo, Redwood City. Wiesenthal has gained national recognition as a connector—of people and places, insight and architecture—in the spirit of community.

He works closely with inspectors, glazing contractors, and curtain wall consultants during the design, fabrication, construction, and installation of curtain wall projects. ROBIN BARTELMAN

Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings Bartelman worked in commercial architecture prior to entering the coatings world and now helps architects with fluoropolymer solutions for commercial projects through specifications assistance, color matching, and product sampling. She also gives AIA accredited Learning Units (LUs) through continuing education courses.

Kawneer

Clark interfaces with architects, designers, and builders involving a variety of typologies and scope, specializing in facades. During 15-plus years in the construction industry, she has earned her LEED credentials and a general contractor’s license and affiliated as an AIA Associate.
