AUSTIN CHAIR MICHAEL ANTENORA | ANTENORA ARCHITECTS | FOUNDING PRINCIPAL Antenora has been responsible for the overall creative-technical direction and management for the firm since 1997. The firm’s work has been recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally with design and construction awards. Antenora Architects received a 2017 AIA National Honor Award for Architecture for its striking adaptive re-use of the Hutto Cotton Gin Building in Hutto, Texas. Their work specializes in adaptive re-use, renovation, and preservation. Antenora practices and resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife and three daughters.

SPEAKERS ARTHUR ANDERSSON | ANDERSSON-WISE ARCHITECTS | PRINCIPAL Andersson studied architecture at the University of Kansas and The Bartlett, University College London and has taught design at Tulane University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Houston.

He cofounded Moore/Andersson Architects in 1990 with Charles Moore and is currently a principal of Andersson•Wise Architects and a fellow in the AIA.

KORY BIEG | OTA+ | PRINCIPAL Bieg is an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin, registered architect, chair of TxA Emerging Design + Technology, and co-director of TEX-FAB. Bieg is the founding principal of OTA+, an office that specializes in the development and use of digital technologies for the design and fabrication of projects at all scales.

GORDON BINGAMAN | ANTENORA ARCHITECTS | ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL Bingaman is an associate principal with Antenora Architects and his 27 years in practice provide a firm foundation for his skills in project management. The scope of his experience includes planning, feasibility studies, design, documentation, and construction administration for a wide range of public and private clients.

Bingaman is a Texas native, with degrees in Architecture and Historic Preservation from Texas A&M.

ANTHONY BIRCHLER | A. ZAHNER COMPANY | VICE PRESIDENT ENGINEERING/SALES Birchler leads Zahner’s design-engineering team. Since 1998, he has been responsible for designing many of the patented systems now used to complete bold architecture all over the world. He shares responsibility for developing two of five patents held by Zahner, known for developing the ZEPPS® Technology, the firm’s dual-curvature building system. Birchler works directly with owners, engineers, architects, and general contractors, providing intelligent problem-solving for the production of complex facades.

SINCLAIR BLACK | BLACK + VERNOOY ARCHITECTS | PRINCIPAL Black is an urban designer, planner, architect, educator, and author. He has planned, programmed, designed, and built projects in Central Texas for forty years. His design work is grounded in years of study of the vernacular architecture of Central Texas, and strives to preserve and celebrate the particulars of the region. He has concentrated on the cultivation of sensitive, client-responsive architecture that is appropriate to human scale and local building history.

DIANA DARLING | THE ARCHITECT’S NEWSPAPER | PUBLISHER | CONFERENCE DIRECTOR Darling is CEO and cofounder of The Architect’s Newspaper, celebrating its 15th year. The A|N media company consists of print and digital publications covering architecture and design news, as well as the Facades+ and Tech+ conferences. As A|N’s publisher, Darling won the AIA National Collaboration Award, Grassroots Preservation Award, and ASLA NY’s President’s Award. She began her publishing career as director of print production for The Gap’s European markets. She holds a BS from the University of Texas at Austin.

DIONNE DARLING | THE ARCHITECT’S NEWSPAPER | ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER Dionne Darling is the associate publisher for The Architect’s Newspaper. Darling has over 25 years experience in business development and sales and handles B2B relationships across the west and southwest regions for A|N. She lives in Arlington, Texas.

KEN JONES | MIRO RIVERA ARCHITECTS | PRINCIPAL Jones joined Miró Rivera Architects in 2001 after obtaining his master’s of architecture from the University of Texas. He was project architect for the Circuit of the Americas’ Main Grandstand & Grand Plaza, Amphitheater and Tower. He recently completed a 30,000-square-foot campus master plan for Lifeworks. His projects have received recognition for their design excellence from the AIA and featured in numerous national and international publications. Jones has been invited to lecture at UT Austin and the Austin Energy Green Building Seminar.

HEATH MAY | DIRECTOR | HKS LINE For 13 years, May has led commercial, hospitality, sports, and healthcare projects. May’s team is responsible for projects including future:GSA, a net-zero renovation solution, earning the 2012 WAN Commercial Building of the Year Award. He was senior designer on Sustainable Urban Living, which won the 2010 Chicago Athenaeum Green Good Design Award. In 2013, he was recipient of Building Design + Construction’s 40 under 40. His interest in passive solar design encourages research in optimizing complex facades for daylighting and solar performance.

G. CHARLES NAEVE | ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERS COLLABORATIVE | FOUNDING PRINCIPAL Naeve is cofounder of Architectural Engineers Collaborative. He has managed structural engineering projects and business activities of engineering firms for over thirty years in the U.S. and internationally.

He is known for creating supportive architectural structures and sustainable building structures in harmony with the natural environment. Naeve has been recognized with honorary membership in the AIA, Austin and Texas chapters, for his significant contributions to the field of architecture and to the built environment.

BRETT RHODE | RHODE PARTNERS | PRINCIPAL Rhode’s experience designing buildings includes work on three continents over a span of thirty years. After working several years in the New York offices of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and Philip Johnson on key international projects, Brett has focused his efforts in Texas. The firm’s recent design work includes several Austin mixed-use projects, including Rise, the Catherine and an upcoming 58-story tower, The Independent.

HEYDEN BLACK WALKER | BLACK + VERNOOY ARCHITECTS | URBAN PLANNER Heyden Black Walker is an urban planner at Black + Vernooy. She manages Reconnect Austin, a community-based call to lower the main lanes of I-35 through downtown Austin, creating a vision of the highway rebuild that reconnects neighborhoods, while providing multi-modal access to jobs, medical facilities, transit, and civic resources. Her goal is equity in transportation, walkability, and increased access for all.
